[Please see Ilkka's correction below.] That's to be expected. The E-type lenses use fundamentally different technology than all previous Nikon F-bayonet lenses. I don't see how Nikon can stay competitive without the move to E-type lenses.

I've asked Nikon to make me an official Nikon Ambassador as an important mediocre photographer and they haven't responded. Cockatoos understand what I mean when I say, "I'm crest fallen."

Who will be first to gut Nikon TC-14E III teleconverter to make one into a smart extension tube?

This list looks obsolete e.g. the Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL VR is missing ...

This has nothing to do with E type lenses. G type lenses that are compatible with TC-14E II are also fully compatible with TC-14E III.
Some compatible lenses are missing from that list actually.

Thank you for the correction. I feel better now.

The lenses which are “TC compatible” have a special notch:

On the picture you see the “TC notch” on the Nikkor lens, whereas the Sigma (or some Nikkor lenses) has none

Luckily, unless the TC 14e iii offers such a massive step change from the previous TC14's, anyone actually affected can just use an earlier version.
I have the TC 14e ii. In fact if anyone here needs this, I'd be happy to sell as I can't remember the last time I used it.
For anyone in the UK, you can have it for 170 plus postage. Pretty much v.good condition with original box etc.
Happy to consider overseas, but the delivery will cost a little more.
Works well with a 300mm f4......

Here is a guy that claims lots of his lenses are incompatible with the iii

Herewith a compatibility list (from Nikon Canada) which seems complete:
http://cdn-5.nikon-cdn.com/Assets/Common-Assets/Images/Teleconverter-Compatibility/EN_Comp_chart.html
And Frank’s correspondent is right: the TC14 III compatibility is much more limited compared to the II which works on all listed* lenses.
*one should be aware NOT to try to attach a TC on lenses NOT on the list, as this might result in ruining the lens surface of both TC and lens
NB: the 300 PF lens seems not to be on the list, and, therefore, should not be compatible with (any of the) a TC

It's the 300 f4D that's listed as incompatible with TC14 II. The 300 f4 PF is on the Cdn list, and often used with both models of the TC14. It will also work on both models of TC2 and 17 but AF is limited at f8

Thank you Chambeshi ☺️ I missed this one; not well awake. Corrected. Thanks.
