A young golden eagle trying to hide his meal from several white- tailed eagles sailing above (january- 2017). Even after several attacks the golden eagle managed to stay put. A real tough one :).
Controlled conditions (hide/bait - non- comercial), so of course, not the "real life", though a fantastic experience to follow these raptors through the winter.

Norway, Rogaland.

I believe that action is called "mantleing"

Thank you, Peter!
Never get tired of these birds :).

I love the pose of the Eagle and the way in which the Eagle and the background compliment each other so perfectly in this great photograph.

WOW - what a powerful and elegant display/pose. The framing and background are fabulous to compliment this story/portrait.

Great attitude ! Wonderful picture...

Great shot! What was the location?

Chickens cover with their wings what other birds consider a snack.

Thank you, Ann.
Often I get impressed by how these birds manage to survive under such conditions. Pretty rough conditions, still, no matter what mother earth throws at them, they makes it look like a walk in the park. Just sailing on the wind, above and between those cold and windy mountains. Impressive.
Even though they often act dominant/agressive, there`s always some love "in the air" :) (Controlled conditions /hide/bait, december 2013, Norway, Rogaland).
In this situation I used the D3s and AF- S 70- 200 VR II.

Thank you, Mongo.
Of course, even though the surroundings are the birds natural environment, we "placed" the bird at "that spot". Nevertheless, always a fantastic experience when the golden eagle choose to turn up (often they don`t :) ).

Thank you for your comment, Jacques, Arthur and David :).
Same behavior as chickens in many ways, though, there`s not much that reminds us of a chicken when they`re up sailing on the wind, David :). And yes, the golden eagle is hiding his snack (a deer) ;)
Arthur: location is Rogaland, Norway.

Thank you, Erik.
I try to compose "in camera", but due to the distance and "only" a 400mm, I had to crop a little, though not much. Otherwise the usual contrast, clarity, vibrance and sharpening. I get great help from the 400 2.8 regarding bokeh (here I used it at f/3.2) :).

The pose of the head and neck, the razor back feathers on the head and neck all give a strong sense of the bird's resolve. The composition is great. The wings displayed as they are, are beautiful.

Thank you, Dave.
Yes, they are some wonderful and interesting creatures. It is, as mentioned earlier, a joy to follow them through the winter period.
