Post by: Anthony on September 06, 2017, 16:05:57
On Saturday 2 September I went to the Cross Country event of the Burghley Horse Trials.  Here are some of my photos.

Please could you click to view large (or view in new tab) as the quality is much better.

Very nice pictures.  A pity that the EXIFs aren't there.  Some technical feedback ?

A very fine set of photographs of a great event in gorgeous surroundings. And you had a lovely day for it too!

You captured some interesting angles and situations there.

I really like those in the water, especially #4 and #5, #5 having the best background of them all. You surely have control over your technique.

Thank you, Ann and knb, I am glad you like them.

MFloyd, the photos were shot on the Fuji X-T2 in AF-C mode, using back button focus, CH and single AF point.  Most were shot in AF-C Custom Mode 1 (normal), but where I was below the fence I used Custom Mode 4 (suddenly appearing objects).  Most were shot with the 50-140, but the photo of the rider coming through the water and facing the camera was taken on the 100-400.  Shutter priority was used, at between 1/1000 and 1/2000, with the ISO between 20 and 1,250 depending on the aperture I wished to use.  I increased the exposure for shots with a bright background, to minimise the dark face effect.

Variety of angles and timing makes for interesting series. Marvelous specimens.

Xt2? Is doing a very nice job!

Great to see you master the Fuji so well. Superb sports shots, Anthony. Funny I have been to the horses yesterday too. My sister works in the business, training people and horses...

golunvolo, Frank, thank you.

I am not really a horse person, but they make for great photos.  Their power and dynamism close up is awesome.
