Title: Take a guess ..
Post by: Lars Hansen on September 01, 2017, 12:48:31
I found these [?] intriguing. Care to take a guess what these are (or rather was)?

As you can see they can have different "flavours" :-)

At first I wanted to say a boiler.
But since you are mentioning flavors those could be some alcoholic beverages...

Fermenting tanks for beer brewing 😉

Thanks Jakov and Bent!

Yes - beer brewing. Not every day you get at chance too see them from the inside  :)

Here's a few more.

No longer in use and the lower 2/3 or so has been removed so that they are visible from below.

They are quite nice seen from above. It is the old Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen.

Those copper vats are magnificent. I imagine that the equipment is made from stainless steel and plastics these days?
___

My Brewery Experience:

I had to photograph for a Dorset (UK) Brewey on one occasion and all morning I was worrying that there would be a Directors' Dining Room and that lunch would be accompanied by plenteous glasses of their product — and I don't like the taste of beer.

There was — and the beverage being offered was exactly as I had expected.

Some quick-thinking at the last minute saved the day: I explained that much as i would love a glass of beer, I couldn't accept one because I needed to be able to drive the camera in the afternoon.

Lunch was excellent and my explanation was apparently accepted.
(Oh, the photographs turned out well too!)

Thanks Ann.
I would imagine the same - I believe most consumer wine making is also done using steel vats.

Thanks for the story. Beer is not everyone's taste - I do like beer but I was perfectly sober when I shot these! ;D The reason for my visit was an interesting photo exhibition: "Streets of the World" by the Dutch photographer Jeroen Swolfs.

They used very interesting Display materials in that exhibition: giant prints on canvas (which will roll-up for transit); tensioned onto wheel-based frames which I imagine can be disassembled into small sections for shipping.

Clever.

The place is quite beautiful -  like a cathedral for beer brewers.

Yes - and it worked fine. The prints are backlit - several of the exhibition rooms were quite dim.

Many thanks Armando and John.

Great stories, and impressive  documented, Lars.

That's a (more than) kind comment from a professional photo journalist  :)

In case you are interested - here are some more impressions. The building is from 1901 and listed and it looked like the building is being renovated. It is one building out of several covering a larger area that comprise Carlsberg Byen (the Carlsberg City) .. also a tourist attraction. The entire area is undergoing big changes - many new buildings and more being constructed.

Btw. - all images in this thread was shot with Fuji X-E1 and the 14/2.8.

Staircases, windows etc.

Very very interesting document !

I really love everything about old factories, old industrial estates, abandoned quarries, old mines, ect.

Most of these places became museums or were dismantled.

Another were converted into expensive accommodation in big towns suburbs...

We can notice in some of your shots there are copper tanks missing.

How could you enter inside the tank ? Through the manhole or the bottom was cut ?

Thank you for sharing these beautiful series,

Francis.

PS : I can notice one more time the picture qualities of these Fuji cameras.

Kuri and Francis - many thanks for the kind comments!

Francis - a few comments:

- I do love such places as well. I went there to see the photo exhibition but was surprised about the place itself - I could have spent much more time taking pictures .. I had to turn of the camera off and rush a bit through a major part of the exhibition about Africa.

- I've attached an extra image so that you can see the tanks from below .. the big circular ting in the ceiling. So yes, they have been removed from below.  And a bonus image - one more from the top.

The Fuji X-E1 is a nice little camera but it was mainly the available Fuji lenses and the ability to use older manual lenses via adapter that made me decide to go down that road (and leave Nikon) - the 14mm I've used for these images is a fabulous lens imo.

Lars, nice work, Gamle Carlsberg, my son lives right around the corner.

Many thanks Fons. That's a nice place to live if he is ok with the many changes - becoming an area with tall buildings (by danish standards)..
