Really spectacular. Focus stacking?

Michael, yet another wonderful image, thank you!

The image is beautiful as always, and I love the serene atmosphere, again, as always.
However, as admirer of your images, I would have to say that the way that the petals right behind the pistil are blurred would be a bit too abrupt? The transition between the blurred petals and the petal wrapping around the stem of the bud doesn't look very natural or smooth, at least to me.

A beautiful result
Whenever I have done focus stacking I have trouble with :
1. where to start - Ie: here the very tip of the flower pistil is not in focus
2. how much to move the focus point - if to shallow I get to many images, to wide I get lines of OOF in the middle of focused areas
3. how wide the aperture - this in conjunction with the above is a problem, if to wide the aperture the movements have to be much more precise, if I went to far, do I go back ? how much ?
4. where to end is easier but is still a question to be answered
I have not attempted a focus stack in while

A beautiful image, Michael, and a great example of what some superb technical skill can achieve with Zerene.
