Title: Polish Impression 2017
Post by: Bjørn Rørslett on July 04, 2017, 17:58:31
I just returned from a travel to the middle and north of Poland. I was accompanied by Ruth, my girl friend, and the purpose of this trip was more leisure than photography. Thus only a very modest kit was employed (Nikon AW1 with the 11-27.5 AW; Nikon D500 with 18-140, 50/1.8, and a APO-Lanthar 125/2.5 "just in case some new or interesting plants turned up", the latter in fact did occur). The AW1 was used in the cities and the D500 + 18-140 mostly elsewhere.

Ruth is a devoted walker and demanded to have her daily long walks - I tagged along and cheated a little by busying myself with photography at the earliest convenient spot until she returned.  A happy plan for both I'd say.

Here are some impressions of Polish forests obtained while I waited for her. Nikon D500, mostly 18-140 ED, and no claim to colour fidelity as such. These are impressions not virtual reality replicas.

Two versions of the same scene follows. Meaning the pictures are taken from the exact same stand point, but not necessarily in the same direction.

Scene 1 Near Mrzezyno. Baltic coastal forest with mixture of deciduous trees and conifers (pine).

Next, inland forest at Sierakowski Park.

Same procedure as in the previous post.

Just to prove that even I, like everyone else, am capable of  making the occasional sharp picture ....

There is a famous Montenegrin poem Gorski Vijenac by Petar Petrovic Njegos that every Montenegrin should know by heart and one of the versus goes:

"In the hands of Mandusic Vuk,
every rifle will be deadly!"

I'm not sure if they could be called "impressionistic", but the images transcendent the boundaries of categories for sure!

Impressive series.  I like especially the fourth one, with the green emerald colour and the structure.

Photography as art, as poetry and as itself - all here in this very fine series; my own favourites are the two blue images and the last.

Bjørn - you once told me you were intimidated by the silence of forests, but I say - get intimidated more often if this is the result.   8) ;D

In this very rare case, I wish it to be a fake message.  :D

The 'news' was for real, but you convinced me to deliver a Final Cut (from a NEF not processed earlier).

Enough is enough, though. Poland has a lot more to offer than haunted forests.

Very artistic series, Bjørn. No matter who visits the forests, won't be able to replicate your shots. :)

Very artistic series, Bjørn. No matter who visits the forests, won't be able to replicate your shots. :)

That might include myself. One is dependent on the ambient setting and inner mood for this kind of photography. All done in camera by the way, sometimes augmented by a little post-processing know-how.

The 'Final Cut' is in fact shot from the exact same stand point as # 3-4. Just goes to show that a zoom lens can be useful on occasion :D
