Title: 3rd Party Focus Screens in D700+7100, series?

My D700 has a slight smudge. (I think it's on the underside of the prism.) From past experience it's a challenging job. there are several third party, split prism screens available online.

Long ago, I put one in my D300 & it threw off the camera's metering, & I went back to stock.

I was thinking of trying one in my D700 & D7100, <<<<<(which has AF issues on some lenses Common sense says "Leave it alone," however I'm a compulsive tinkerer.

Anyone here, have gone that route? I appreciate any advise given.

I change it on my d7000 with no issues
Now I upgrade to d7200 but I use the original for the moment, d7XXX series  use the same type of screen
