Title: Hummingbird feeding her young
Post by: Tristin on June 26, 2017, 22:12:13
We have a hummingbird nested in a tree in front of our apartment building conveniently located next to our stairs.  I just got my camera back from service and decided to go take a shot of the young and got quite lucky!

Nikkor 200mm f/4 ai @f/5.6

She really looks eager to feed. Nice animal life catch.

That is beautiful.  I have never seen such a thing.  The lovely green tones enhance the overall image.

Tristin:

Nice feeding action, good eye contact with the chick, strong environmental feel.

If you have enough pixels to do it, I might crop in a bit tighter to eliminate some of the very bright background areas.

Cheers

Randy

Nice capture

I had a nest in my backyard a couple of years ago, I had to put the camera with a remote or the mother wouldn't land

great opportunity taken advantage of. You did well with no flash under that foliage..........post processing ???

I don't catch your drift re the post processing with the emoji.  The only thing I did outside of adjustments during raw conversion was a channel mixer filter set to a low opacity to shape the tones.  Here is the raw converted with zero adjustment if you are interested in seeing what difference my PP made, roughly cropped to be similar.

thanks Tristin for your explanation. What Mongo meant was that he  though it would have been dark under the foliage, yet, the subjects in the image are close to the lighting of their surrounds.  Without a flash, this would only have been with some post processing. As it is, it seems that Mongo was wrong to assume it must have been dark under the foliage. The simple answer seems to be that you got the exposure correct in camera irrespective of the circumstances. Nicely done.

Yeah, it was dark under the foliage.  Hence the iso 4500.  Gotta love modern sensors!
