Title: Going Mirrorless?
Post by: Peter on May 28, 2017, 23:46:41
Well not exactly..
I picked this Sony A6000 up for $7.50 at a thrift store last week.
I was like $15.00 I will take it wait NO! It's half price day today.. Had no battery reason I got it at such a stupid price.
Bought a battery and charger and it fired right up, except for the lens was locked up and would give a check lens connection..
I could see the Iris opening and closing and the lens wanted to come out but then it would error out.
After pushing the lens in at start up a few times it came alive, haven't had an issue yet.
Camera is at 93305 shutter count so it has been well used. Just ordered an adapter for my Nikkor lenses as the kit lens works but is not that sharp.. Like I should complain? ???

The low price makes one willing to accept a great deal of quirks from such a camera.

I realized this lens does Close to middle ground OK but needs good light.
It also is a little intermittent with the sharpness, distant focus is not that good.
I am going out today and try to find something worthy for you guys to look at.
I have read this lens is a decent lens for what it is but not great, just a kick start lens.
Been hearing slapping some legacy glass on the front of this camera opens a new meaning of good IQ.
I have a froze up dead Yashica FR1 with a Crystal clear Yashica 50mm ML f1.7 on it I am working on getting an adapter for it.

Hi Peter,

congratulations for your find. I have an A6000 and I enjoy it more and more now that I am beginning to be familiar with it. Regarding lenses, I did not manage any good results with legacy glass and adapters (Zuiko, Pentax, M42 Industar...), but your experience may be different. I find the Sigma DN series (native APS-C Sony mount) to be quite good and cheap. The Sony pancake 16mm f/2.8 is very soft outside the center, not recommended. Lately, I have been using a Zeiss Touit 12mm, and it is in a diferent league, with price to match.

Attached is a picture taken with the Sigma DN 30mm.

Went to Best buys today and fiddled with a display A6000 realized my manual zoom ring is trashed the one I played with was smooth and zoomed in and out.
Mine just turns and it's a bit stiff, it still zooms with the side switch. I also loaded up the latest Firmware. I added a few things it didn't have.

OK Working with this but liking it already.
Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF damn battery died so this is it.. Miss that little green dot but the red highlight works well.
I ordered two more batteries. I have to get this format down so the 50mm is now covering?

Aha - the *good* S-mount adapter ... the only thing I kept when I got rid of my Sony A7. Perhaps there is another Sony in my future? The adapter is so well made and functional that I simply couldn't let it go.

I will PM you something  :o :o :o

this is the amedeo adapter. it is well made but the samples i saw all have bad grease. they should lubricate this with the lightest grease available or none at all  ::) graphite would even be better

Well I have been playing with this camera and Nikon and Rokinon 14mm and 85mm f1.4.
The 14mm is so far not that good on this camera, The 85mm looks good haven't played that much with it Nikon 20mm f4 OK, 100mm Nikkor-P Gauss f2.5 good AF D 50-105mm good.
So far the star of the show is my 50mm f1.8.. I got some stunning isolated shots today see photos.
I have a question one the files will not open in PS5, will open in the Sony Image Data converter but won't convert to Tiff or jpeg. It will open in the Free PT Photo editor but they are extremely warm looking have to cool the WB to get it to look natural like I get in the Sony IDC program they look excellent in the Sony IDC.
Help Serious SONY Newbee!! ??? The girl was riding her bike back to Canada started from Canada..
This camera has some good dynamic range.. I Like it!

Got my C/Y Adapter today for my Yashica ML 50 f1.7.
So far the 50's kick in high gear on this camera, my 20mm seem to have a mind of it's own even with the focus peak.
The 105's are close to the 50's. I am enjoying this camera anyway I can. If for street photography is what it's doing good at I can live with that.
And no I haven't picked up my D700 in awhile! :(
