Title: 24mm-85mm f2.8-f4 D AF find attached to a camera..
Post by: Peter on April 02, 2017, 03:14:20
I was in a thrift store yesterday an they had this rig for $150.00!! But knowing today Saturday the first was half off day I took a gamble left it yesterday and hoped it would still be there today..
I guess it paid off for $75.00. I also scored a Canon G5 in the box with everything including the original camera body cover for $5.00. Other than the LCD screen being a little scratched the rest of the camera looks almost new. I did some research and found this lens is in a mixed bag, I took some quick shots of this abandoned house. The plan was I would sell it and the N80 the little devil on my shoulder talked me out of it.
I find it damn good IQ and AF seems spot on. The only disappointment it didn't come with a hood!  ;D I am sure I will sell the G5.

Any photographs yet with the AF 24-85/2.8-4.0D lens?

What a bargain !

Have you taken any images with the zoom ?
Looks very nice

I can't help but compare it with the 24-85 AFS VR, which costs if I recall correctly about $500

Yes I took some quick simple photos on my way home nothing exciting was heavy overcast loaded them up to Capture and was surprised.
The corners are soft wide open but tame down at f5.6. I cleaned up the N80 put on a 28-80mm G lens and sold it within two hours for $111.00.
What I wound up with was a free clean sweet lens and 20 dollars in my pocket.

A mixed bag? If everything is properly checked and calibrated the lens is nice. I also has a macro mode.

I once used a no serviced version of it that even managed to perform sub D70ish.
