Title: [THEME] Tools
Post by: Jack Dahlgren on March 15, 2017, 06:57:50
Anything that helps create or transform.

These are a set of stone fabrication tools. They remind me of chess pieces.

Great idea for a theme Jack!

Your image screams for an overcooked "all sliders to the max" treatment btw :)

Almost, it usually helps me transform wood into tinder or fuel for the campfire where the fire turns it into coal ;D

This 18 year old custom hand made chopper also came in handy today in stripping branches before they go into the wood chipper. But in a distant past it was also used to cut myself a patch thru the jungle and was even used by a friend to cut off the head of his trophy wild boar :o

Another hobby of mine is customising Surefire flashlights which usually involves widening the diameter of the battery compartment a few millimetre so an 18650 li-ion battery can be used instead of two CR123a lithium batteries. Besides being rechargeable they can deliver much more output which is of course a lot more fun to play with :)

I collect many tools, including some mystery tools, some of which have interesting shapes.  Here's one of my favorites.  I actually know what it is, but it took a long time and a serendipitous look at an old barn to figure it out.

As long as I'm here I might as well add a couple more favorites.  There's one of the most unusual wrenches you'll find - made of what looks like cast bronze, it is, I think, a wrench for undoing some large hose coupling or perhaps a shaft gland. Who knows, but I like the form.

And then there's this constant velocity universal joint.  Another one I was able to identify, a design surprisingly old.

I bought this vintage hand drill from an eBay seller.  I had been using a couple of hand drills bought brand new to drill holes into the aluminium die-cast cases for guitar pedals.  They were all cheaply made and their parts are not precisely made or assembled, and using them had been nothing but an uncomfortable experience.

This vintage hand drill made in U.S.A. offers me an other-worldly comfort in use.  The quality of the metal is excellent in the first place.

The image was shot with my 2nd-gen iPhone SE.
