Arigato domo Akiyama-San! A wonderful story indeed, great images and a great lens!
I have one too, my serial# is 705148, so it seems to have been made much, much later than yours ;-)
[PS: I also have a rather rare 3.5/68mm (!!) EL-Nikkor #740321, do you know its story, too?]

Can you confirm #705148, it is the lowest I have seen in the 705xxx series.
The 705xxx series is is engraved "Nippon Kogaku Japan", while the the 370xxx series is engraved "Nikon", so the 370xxx series is later!
I have a few serial numbers recorded here: http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html#Industrial
This section is still far from complete and probably needs to be reorganized, but this all takes time.

Yes Roland, I had the lens in front of me when I wrote this. Still have it here. It has "Nippon Kogaku Japan" written on the front rim.
-
Thank you, I will add it to my database! :)

Just seeing the lens in the image makes my knees go soft.

The earliest I have recorded for this series is #705011.

Congrats that you have one, too RonVol, and an even older one!!
-
Thanks Ron, I'll add that one to my database too.
It's also interesting to note that the optical design is very similar to the 55/3.5 Micro-Nikkor.

Hi Klaus,
Unfortunately I can't afford to collect these industrial-type lenses, I try to stick to just the F mount lenses.
I do however try to keep track of the serial numbers and all of the different types of lenses Nikon made for industrial/special applications...............there are so many!
Cheers,
Ron.

Here's wikipedia in Japanese for the list of industrial lenses by Nikon:
https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%8B%E3%82%B3%E3%83%B3%E7%94%A3%E6%A5%AD%E7%94%A8%E3%83%BB%E7%89%B9%E6%AE%8A%E7%94%A8%E3%83%AC%E3%83%B3%E3%82%BA%E3%81%AE%E4%B8%80%E8%A6%A7
And this is the image of a sample of 68/3.5 posted there.

My pleasure! The serial number is quite close to yours. They are from the same lot maybe?
