Taken with D750 and 85/1.4 AF-D.
I almost discarded this photo die to the fact that it is a tad overexposed - but then I realised it was the best I made that day on the road from Zagreb to Belgrade a week ago.
I am also curios to see the winter photos from California and other regions of the world without ice and snow.
Perhaps those down under can open a summer thread :)

A wonderful photograph on more levels than I am aware of.....
-
The overexposure works nicely here to render the dazing backlight. Glad you didn't discard it!
-
this is a great one
-
Beautiful one, Jakov.
-
Very nice and subtle! :)
-
Jacov, again you break the rules, with beautiful results!
-
Woodley, Akira, Thomas, Bruno, Erik, and Anthony, I am overwhelmed by your kind comments :)
Thank you!
-
Jakovic style!
But be careful, this is bordering on Bjørnesque 8) 8) 8)
Beautifully done my friend.
-
Thank you, Hans!
It's a huge compliment to me whenever my images are compared with Bjørn's :)
-
Great image - BUT WHAT WINTER! some parts here in South Africa currently are experiencing heat waves with temps in excess of 40 degrees C (104F+)
-
A real beauty Jakov.
Here it's freezing in the nights right now.

Thanks John, and yes, I know it's freezing in the Netherlands.

I was saying to Bob the other day - in winter it's too cold to shoot - in summer it's too hot ;D ;D

As requested, some "California Winter" from one of the local nature places, Sullivan Canyon(L.A. area). It's typically greener now than summer, due to most of the precipitation occurring in Winter. In order, the now-ripe berries of the Toyon plant, Sycamore trees with a few leaves yet to fall, the oak trees which are evergreen. Shot on Christmas Day.
-
Nice one, Jakov.
As far as I am concerned, "winter" only means "less light" and "no leaves on deciduous trees".
My last real winter shots were about my rabbit ploughing through freshly fallen snow. Years ago.

Freezing morning, Fog and Linden trees.

Nice blue and golden Lars :)

The winter in Holland lasted for about 24 hours where the temperatures plunged to -5ºC, imagine the cold :D
Today it's +5ºC hence I needed to hurry up and capture the remaining ice...

Winter around here is the only time it is wet. Colors are dark. Light is soft. Moss grows.

Some heavy snow here in the Netherlands, and more to come....
-
This is all the snow we have had so far - it was yesterday and now it has already been washed away by cold rain.
But I was there at the right time :)

I like it too, thankfully you have not binned it.
Probably the one I like best in this thread so far.

Nice blue and golden Lars :)
Thanks Børge!

Haven't had much snow but some very nice cold days - an old gnarled apple tree at the edge of a forest.
-
We had some remains of snow in the morning, a few days ago ;)
-
The first day in ages with subzero temperatures and sun. It seems like winter is dying concept here in norway :-\
-
A few more from the ice series I took during last weekend.
Sometimes the best shots of the day are just a step from your doorway.

Finally a bit of snow and frost after a series of dull gray days.

Very good, Lars. Ice structures are well shown.

Thanks Bjørn - one of those shots where I really had to convince myself to switch to a longer focal length after a long cold hike and hallucinations of hot coffee and a doughnut.
Here is another icy shot.

From our garden last Sunday, a few days later it was 15 degrees (Celsius).

I am thoroughly enjoying all the entries :)

Taken with D3 and 135mm f2,8 Nikkor-Q.C, even though EXIF says f3,5

We got some snow.
-
Buddy, capturing the dog like that with a 135 mm manual focus focus lens is true skill.
Not to mention the composition. Truly wonderful!
-
Yes, indeed. Super shot Buddy. I know that 135/2.8 QC is hard to focus. You managed to get it spot on, in action.

From today in Åre, Sweden.

Great capture, Buddy!
Fantastic lighting, Børge!
Jan, love the fairly-tale-like image of two MF Nikkors!
-
Truely golden light Jan. The hares and photographer are great performers too :)

Another Monochrom winter shot. Massive chunks of ice from this morning.

Thanks all, those words are too kind. I could post pictures like these all day long I'm afraid, but without snow because that was all gone within 3 hours time. I never really found the 135mm f2,8 Nikkor-Q.C that hard to focus. It gives better visual feedback as to when a subject is in focus then the 80-200 f4 Ai-S which, however, I also truly love for such photos.
Here is 6 days earlier, with the 80-200 f4 Ai-S

With winter out of the way, we are now sitting out a storm, hoping the trees in our backyard remain upright. If one of them decides to take a nap, it will crash on the house.

Three days ago, the temperature was 72 degrees Fahrenheit and Snowdrops began blooming in our yard. Earliest I can remember seeing them in flower.
