Ho Chi Minh City, December, 2016
In case anyone was wondering, I was in Southeast Asia from November, 29th through December 16th. I am still jet lagged and worn out from the trip.

Micro businesses like the ones populating this market are a major source of employment in Southeast Asia. These also provide a retail outlet for small farmers and fishermen.

Image #2 - very very well done. I love it. The others are good too :)

Thank you Elsa. The commotion in #2 is typical of Viet Nam

Thank you Elsa. This scene is typical, a micro business spilling out onto the street. The family lives behind the business. There are so many random colors in these scenes without going monochrome they would look like an explosion in a paint factory.

Wonder why the couple is standing in the middle of the street

Keep them coming!
And, preferably, in colour.

The second pic is great, but the wedding shot burns the house down. Very very cool setting and composition!!!

The photographer was trying to get the shot without so many people nearby, I guess.
Thank you Anthony. These will be mostly in color.
Happy holidays everyone. It's 24C in Houston. Come visit me to warm up!

#4: like and old painting telling different small stories, put together by the artist, all at the same time. Wonderful.

Thank you Alaun.

Thanks for posting this great series! (Quite a difference from what it was 45-50 years ago, by the way.)

Thank you Tersn. I was in Hanoi about 22 years ago when the country was really opening up to the world. It was a sleepy town, today it is bustling.

Edible snakes, preserved in high proof rice wine.
Exotic (from a European point of view) and interesting. Any idea how they are used in the kitchen?
-
I will skip on the snakes. That image is so disturbing I cant even see the photography part behind it.
I dont fear snakes. But as a food source? not in this lifetime.
-
Thank you Thomas and Elsa. I know they eat grilled snake meat. With the preserved stuff other than drinking the alcohol, I don't know.

I saw that motorbike mafia in Taiwan - what a sight!

Just a wonderful series!
-
I like the weavers shot
For the western cultures, eating in Asia is always a different experience, the times I have been traveling in China I survived just fine, and enjoyed must of it :)
Did you tried the snakes or just shoot them ?
-
Very nice additions. The motor bike crowd is impressive. Just visualize they would all be in their own car...
-
I just discovered this thread and glad I did. You have captured the vitality and beauty of the country and its people. Nice job Ron.

Ron, I'm enjoying the series. The wide dynamic range of the life in Vietnam is wide from the idyllic countryside to the busy large cities.
The bottled snakes image is hilarious! Did you see any lizard version? :D
-
Ron, thanks for some 'real world' documentary coverage of an interesting place. Your shots have been an antidote to the photojournalistic clichés that I usually see. Please keep posting!

I have something from Laos which is even more disgusting. Just wait.

Thank you. For me this is a departure from the usual emphasis on pretty western women in hot weather attire. It also represents a change in presentation in this forum. Before leaving for Viet Nam I did a search on street photography there. It gave me some ideas on what to expect. For street photographers, Viet Nam is "to die for".
I am very pleased with the amount of interest this series has recieved.

You may notice how easy it is to get the Vietnamese involved in the picture taking.

Thank you. Interesting, educating and pleasing.

Thank you. The three girls in red were studying English. Their assignment was to go out and talk to English speakers. That's almost as hard as doing street photography, LOL.
