Does anyone out there know of an exif viewer for Safari? As the one I use ExifExt has stopped working! Which is a shame.
OSX Sierra
-
Have you tried on the developer's site whether a newer version exists?
-
Bjorn, I have done that and redownloaded the latest version, and it doesn't do anything!
Dallas tells me that the developer in no longer supporting ExifExt!
-
I'm using ExifExt 1.9.9 on MacOSx 10.12.1, same problem.
-
OK, so the problem is aapparently the OS and browser, not the program as such then.
As I have left the Mac world years ago, afraid I cannot direct you to alternatives. EXIFTool is probably too hard-core.
-
It seems that Apple has done som under the hood changes in Siera, as other programs also stopped working after the upgrade :(
-
I just tested "EXIF Viewer" on my macOS Sierra, work fine, but I don't know if it is the functionality you want.
It is a stand-alone app.
Exify is a plugin for Firefox, maybe the same function, but not for Safari. There is also a plug-in for Chrome called EXIF Viewer.
found them here: http://carlcheo.com/best-exif-viewers

Chris, that's the one, annoying ain't it

Very >:(
As a standalone app it works, but as an extension on Safari its doesn't (anymore).
I only use it in Safari.
I guess there will be an update soon.
IIRC it happened with a previous OSX version as well.
-
Chris, can you point me at the stand alone version please?
-
I downloaded the program from:
http://phriedrich.de/?module=projects&options=view;0005.xml
I tried with uninstall - restart - install, but that didn't help.
In the folder Programmes I've found Exif Editor.app that could be executed (and worked).
-
Chris, thanks for the link, unfortunately all I get is a download for the Safari Extension and I don't see a folder called programs!
-
He probably referred to 'Programmes' folder on your computer ...
-
On a Mac it's called "Applications" which I searched diligently and no EXIF viewer.
Since then Chris sent me an email with a zip file of the program, and I now thanks to Chris, I can view the EXIF of my files! Super stuff Chris!

All is well that ends well ... when Apple lets you down, NG members step in to help :D
-
Bjorn so true, just shows the friendliness of NG! Brilliant
-
Mike,
Is there a reason that you wish to view the exif data in Safari? I only ask because Preview does a pretty good job of displaying the exif data. Nothing like as complete as Phil Harvey's ExifTool, though.
-
I'm still running under MacOS 10.11 El Capitan, and the Safari extension ExifViewer has stopped to work as well.
-
Lorne, Safari is my chosen browser! and the ExifExt Safari extension allowed me to look at the exif data of any photo displayed in the forums that I use. for instance you may post a photo in NG and with ExifExt i would be able to look at the exif of that photo, I like doing this out of curiosity, as I like to see how others set their cameras and what lenses they are using as I may learn something new or interesting!
I sent an email to the creator of ExifExt and he replied that something he used to access the data was down and that impacted the operation of ExifExt!
-
This is the what ExifExt will show.
-
Yes, Jeffrey Friedl 's pages seem down.
-
Fons, it seems the the server he uses is the problem!
-
I use pyexiftoolgui in Sierra.
It works most of the time... sometimes requires a relaunch.

ExifExt is a Safari plug in, so it can display the exif data of any photo without loading the photo into a program by just by using command + E inside the boundary of the image and so was very convenient to use. Also it didn't require me to download any bodies picture as in the screenshot above!
