Will the 200mm f/3.5 fit on a Df for instance, or any other nikon dslr, and if not what needs to be adapted to do so?
-
The CPU needs to be removed or replaced by one of Bjørns CPUs
You will not have AF.
There are some people who has posted these differences in the contact pin assignment/configuration online,,,

The newer Nikon models apparently no longer short-circuits their battery if the 200/3.5 is attached. However no feature on the lens will work so its CPU is a waste without replacement.

What are its qualities in comparison with similar length nikkors; Nikon has not chosen to further develop the design?
There is one offer hence my questions, so if it is all worthwhile to acquire for its qualities and not for collectors reasons. Thanks!

It works perfectly on all my cameras as an AI or AIS lens. Very sharp images with high contrast and very good colours.
I used the lens in Freiburg http://nikongear.net/revival/index.php/topic,1595.180.html (http://nikongear.net/revival/index.php/topic,1595.180.html)

It's basically made over the same principle as the 180/2.8 ED ...
The 200/3.5 is sharp with good colour rendition and does well in IR too. Only complaint would be the feel of the manual focusing as there is some slack and play in the collar (it was made for AF with no manual override in its time).

Thank you for the explanations, have a good idea now, there was little to be found on the internet.
