October, 2016, Marin County, California
I now have the photos from the trip in a gallery on my blog:
https://ronscubadiver.wordpress.com/2016/11/17/the-bay-area/ (https://ronscubadiver.wordpress.com/2016/11/17/the-bay-area/)
There are some landscapes which were posted here, and some girl pics which were not.

Lovely shot against the light, very well behaving lens!

nice Ron. The image is lovely. I cant decide if I like the sun being so bright - but I think I do. Its just my brain telling me I shouldnt. But I do !! :)

You have captured the red-pink mist of the marine environment well. The white spot of the sun seems a touch on the burned-in side.

Wonderful view
I think I would crop it without the sun 8)

In all honesty, I don't know what to do about shots with the sun. The sun is burnt burnt when you look at it with your eyes. As for the lens, the 50 f/1.4 G is an amazing piece of kit for 4 hundred and change, and it's not bulky.
Thank you everyone.

By "burned in " I meant 'too dark'...it's a light gray on my laptop. On the better 27" monitor, I can see it is max white within the JPEG. Good shot no matter.

Lovely point of land. You have a good eye for composing landscapes and this is no exception. I particularly like the light cascading down the hillside through what looks like mist. As for the sun, it does seem bright but then it is the sun after all.

I really like the composition and the atmosphere.
I don't think you could crop the sun out without really harming the photo - you'd end up with rays of light at the edge of the photo pointing to something just off the edge and drawing the eye out of the photo. Ideally the sun would look more like the sun, but then this sort of exposure has always been a problem due to the dynamic range involved. HDR has a bad reputation due to hideous abuse in the past, but if done gently could have helped here. I try to bracket these sorts of exposures in case I later want to try that approach, not that I'm proficient at it yet.

The problem with the sun in this picture is not its brightness per se, rather that the post-processing hasn't been kind to the immediate around the solar disc. The local darkening is simply too overdone visually.

Now, I understand the problem. Thank you BR.

On my screen it looks like very light blue sky. When I first saw the image I didn't realize it was the sun.
