Taken recently in downtown Toronto while I walked with a friend.
We came upon an elderly man who was bent over and shuffling along very slowly.
His painful posture, and unkempt appearance gave me pause to remember that for many elderly persons, their Golden Years are anything but.

the image does have impact

Poor fellow! He should obviously be cared for or be at a home. A picture with an impact.

Advanced Osteoporosis? Very sad.

Painful and compelling...

Pedro, Armando, Borge, Frank, David, Akira,
Thank you for commenting.
Frank,
Krass?
By that I assume you mean "crass".
And I disagree.
Yes the picture is not pretty, but it wasn't meant to be.
I would have been insensitive had I run up past the man and taken the shot from in front, possibly embarrassing him at that instant, and later by posting an identifiable photo (however unlikely that he or anyone who knows him would see it on the internet).
By taking the shot from behind him, I was trying to capture a picture of reality for many elderly people.
Telling stories is all I ever want to do with my photos, and if they make you think to the point that you are mad, sad, glad or bad, then I've achieved what I set out to do. And based on the reaction that the picture has gotten, I think I've done that.

Robert, this is a striking image. And I believe that "Krass" is close to that meaning in German (Frank is German).

I think Frank meant "super".

Olivier,
Thanks for the complimentary comment.
I looked up "Krass" and its definition and as I don't speak German, am still not certain in what context Frank used it.
I'm just glad the photo has generated some comments, which means, good or bad it struck a chord with some who saw it.

I had a quick think and I agree there is nothing disrespectful.
I probably would have not had the guts to shoot but that's just me.
The photo is poignant, I really feel for this man - and many others in his predicament.
-
Whoever called them the Golden Years hadn't gotten there yet. Very nicely done.
-
Simone/ dslater,
Thank you both for looking and commenting.

Let's call it: the poor guy is wearing a pant full of dried up shit.

That is a strong picture, Robert. :-\ At least he is not suffering waiting for the 810's successor..
