So, were you operating the teleportation system, Dave?  :D  I wish I were there!

Thanks, everybody. Getting shots like this is largely down to luck  - being in the right place at the right time - but carrying a camera at all times does help. I rarely go out of the house without a camera.

So, were you operating the teleportation system, Dave?  :D  I wish I were there!

Yes! It is actually a gold-coloured Rover 75 Tourer of 2004 vintage, and the very next day it teleported us to Orkney.   ;D ;D

Don't ask the men in black. Their lips are sealed.

alas, Scottie has been in a million particles in space for some years but do like the connection and title.

Would have to classify this as a monochrome and an effective one at that. Like the sky to water ratio. The central nature of this image does not hurt its composition at all. Of course, love the interruption of blades of light in a darker and sombre scene.

PS - funny you should mention Scottie of all people. The 1960's original series of Star Trek is currently being shown again on Australian TV as an nostalgia trip for old Trekies.

Excellent capture and PP, certainly the right place at the right time!

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Mongo - all these images - and I shot many repeats and variations - the rays lasted about 30mins - recorded as a very deep, dark, saturated blue on the D800 sensor with WB set to Auto. In PP I have actually taken a lot of the blue out of these images. The rays contained a tiny hint of red and yellow which I amplified slightly but the image still comes across as predominantly mono.

Fons, Erik, Ron - thanks, boys - all comments gratefully received.

Fons - that vertical blade of light lasted a long time. I thought it seemed like an invitation . . . .
