Title: Velika Planina, IR
Post by: Olivier on August 22, 2016, 22:40:39
Less than 30 minutes north of Ljubljana (capital of Slovenia), you can still find traditional alpine hamlets still occupied by herders during the nice season. Velika Planina is one and although it is progressively getting more modern (all cabins are totally made of wood, don't have running water but now some have solar panels!) it definitely looks like forgotten by time. This sometimes feels like a blessing.
Here are two shots taken with my IR modified V1. The sky was blue when we reached the place but many clouds progressively built up and contributed creating a dramatic atmosphere.

both are very good, but the first stands out by the inclusion of the birds and a tighter relationship to the buildings. The last one has the IR-blackness permeating the clouds and sky.

Yes, the first one's excellent, me thinks.

both excellent images for different reasons.

The features of and in the sky in #1 and the building nearest are its most striking features. It is interesting to note (at least from Mongo’s point of view) that super white clouds in IR are far more acceptable and featured than super white clouds taken conventionally. In the latter case, they would often appear featureless and over exposed.

#2 is an exercise in sheer perspective and scale. This, if done properly, usually give rise to feelings of “awe”. Your image does exactly that. A seemingly powerful and overwhelming sky breaths ominously over a seemingly small, isolated and subservient refuge.

The only CC Mongo has is in relation to #2. The building should remain black and well outlined against the BG. However, in the present image, it seems just a touch too black to reveal just a touch more features (even though, in the scheme of things, features on this building are a desirable and not an essential).

I like #2 for its simply dramatic impact.  #1 contains more intriguing information and well worth viewing large and investigate the details.  Thanks for sharing, Olivier!

Not snowing, but snowing :)
The first one with the birds, like Hitchcock!

The birds,,, ;) Yes!

The rendering of the roof completes it.

I like the complex structure of the first picture very much. It shows the embeddedness of human settlement
into the natural environment and the interaction of the two living entities.

The artistic depiction makes it at the same time a pleasure to look at independent of its content. The balance
of relations: forms, tones, areas, lines .... is extraordinary, exceptional

Very nice B&W images.

I feel they are genuine Ilford B&W paper I used decades ago when I processed my Pyrenean landscapes photos...

Love them !

Also I like the details on wooden tiles.

Well, thank you very much.
I took the first pictures because of the birds and how their presence changed the scene indeed.
The tile rendering has to be credited to IR light only, and I like it.
Mongo, it will be easy to lighten the church somewhat and i will see how it looks. To be honnest I hesitated for a long time between this version and an even darker one. Let's see!

Thanks again
Olivier

That first one is really good. Is that solar cells on the roof of that first house?

Olivier , that first image is a stunner.  I would have missed it if Jørgen had not posted a reply.  Pouring with rain, I'm playing catch up  ;)
Cheers,
