Title: Nikon 200/2 VR
Post by: Snetiger on August 05, 2016, 22:43:15
I just happened to fall over a 200/2 VR and drove 900 km in one day to pick it up. This is why I did. :)

The 200/2 in any incarnation is a beautiful lens. Just a pity they never managed to get the tripod support right, though. The manual version is the best, though, by a wide margin.

I have the manual 200/2 ED-IF AIS and the AFS 200/2 VR Mk.1. The latest Mk.2 is marginally better but not to an extent that made me want to upgrade my old MK.1. I got a phenomenal deal of the Mk.1 at the time I purchased it.

I agree on the tripod support. Poor style.

How is the VR Mark II better?

Better sharpness towards the corners, mainly.

Do note we are talking about being "better" than a stellar performer, thus the Mk.1 has nothing to be ashamed of ...

There seems to be a cheap offer of the Manual version on Ebay currently, item number: 201612291859

The 200/2 G VRII does have an improved tripod foot and no need to change it. The VRII also has the new VR with extra stop as well as improved Nano dust.......

Ok thank you but as I got DX it won't matter much.  ;D Love it to pieces already!

Nice shot Almass.

Right. Thank you. Mine came with a RRS foot so that improves on things tripod wise. :)
