Title: Main Street
Post by: Rick Waldroup on July 30, 2016, 21:23:27
Main Street - Dallas, Texas - July 29, 2016

This gentleman was a participant in a Black Lives Matter rally in downtown Dallas yesterday.

For those interested, the camera was a Lumix GF-1 with a Sigma 60mm 2.8 lens.

Rick, a  most sensitive capture and depiction of what is indeed a most sensitive issue for the US at this time.  I believe that your choice of medium suits the tenseness of the situation.

Rick, great image and conversion as usual.  Being a Vietnam Vet I'm sure there are many asking where the "Black Lives Matter" movement was then  :(

Three weeks ago, a Black Lives Matter march was staged in downtown Dallas by the Next Generation Action Network, a local activist group based here in Texas.  During that march, a lone sniper ambushed police officers, shooting 14 of them.  Five of the officers died.  It was the single worst casualty incident of first responders since 9/11.  The sniper was eventually killed by the police and in the following investigation they discovered that he was not affiliated with the protesters or any other Black Lives Matter organization.  However, his sentiments were clear in that he told the police, right before they killed him, that his goal was to shoot and kill as many white police officers as possible.

On July 29, this same group called for another march to protest police violence in the United States.  Fortunately, this time the march ended peacefully.

I want to thank everyone for the comments.

The simpler your image becomes, the more stories will be contained.  I'm aware of the tragic incidents in the U.S., but there should be far more in the background which should also be contained in this simple portrait.

Great storytelling, Rick. I had to spend some time with the image until it settled, but then it really did.

Perfect B&W, tack sharp.  Subject matter to the point.  Real street.

Great image in many ways:  processing, composition, light, and it has a point. Liked it.
