On rear occasions, usually during summer, I develop insomnia. To tired to do some serious photography, to excited to fall asleep. Raving about with the Df and a 50 mm seem to provide a a decent middle ground. Watching other creatures relax might toss me into lala land. Well, maybe next night... ::)

Amazing.
Adorable.
Lovely.
Inspiring.
Thank you.
-
I am all for blur circles and sleep :)
-
If sleep dont come tonight, I will start to harvest the mighty crop of Psillocybe fungi on my fields. They would surely take me to lala land :)
-
Very nice, Børge.
It is said that counting (and photographing) sheep is very effective in curing Insomnia ;)
-
Psilos are very intersting.
You might start to talk to the horses and sing a long.
-
That might have been interesting Frank, but I think I would stay away from a Psilo based diett for now. My brain is perfectly capable of messing up on its own :)
-
The secod image is gorgeous Børge! What lens was used? The distortion in the oof gives it a fantastical look!
-
I used the 50 1,2 ais, due to the available light at 4 o'clock in the morning.

Thought so, what a lens!

Thanks for sharing Borge.
Whereabouts did you take these?
And what time of night were they taken.
And how come you have psilocybin out so early in the summer?

Thats essentially how my brain works during the nights for the moment Frank. The trouble is that my brain is trying to connect this random thoughts. I belive its going away sooner or later but its an interesting state of mind. You never know what thought the the brain come up with next, and it give me lots of ideas :)
Colin, these pictures are taken at 63°26′25″ N 11°2′27″ E and here these little "buggers" start appearing in july and go on until the snow comes. I have never tried to ingest them and hopefully no one will. If I need enhanced colors and emotions I fix it in Photoshop ;)
-
Børge: I sit down and write, writre, write until my brain and my heart are empty. Then I can sleep.

Interesting - will be tried. I go thru patches sleeping 3 - 4 ours only and it is very tiring. Also - I find if my energy levels are depleted - I cant function emotionally and that effects sleep.
On the bright side - I love the horses - I also like blur circles and S(H)eep ;D ;D
-
I find it more effective photographing sheep than counting them :) IR capture

Børge, this one (#15) is awesome!

Great sheep too Børge.
Meanwhile you and Elsa can maybe try finding your K1 and HP 8 acupuncture points and give them some gentle sustained pressure for a few minutes. HP8 is easy, however the K1 points can involve a bit of twisting, but the end result is pleasantly calming.
I can generally fall to sleep reliably but often wake up in the night. These two points often work for me and I just feel tired and drop off afterwards.
I'm happy to visit clients and do a Shiatsu treatment. You guys live a bit further away than I'm used to, but maybe we could work something out on the site fares....?

counting my breaths usually puts me back to sleep, if my brain is more sttuborn then writing a list and counting breaths does the trick
wonderful horses portraits :)

Colin - I will send my address, and you let me know when to expect you. I have no trouble falling asleep - staying asleep is the issue :)
-
Actually the last two nights I have had some sleep, due to heavy rain. The sound of the rain feel calming and hypnotic. Another trick is to imagine falling thru a dark universe, but that tend to work best during the dark season when little light is present.
-
BW - impressive.... (the bird - not your thoughts haha)
-
The B&W pic of horses is really good.
And I love the night one too !
Splendid ! ;)
-
Børge makes spectacular images.
The overblown sheep and the night shot are super!
-
I had trouble not falling in sleep when going through this thread :D
Keep them coming, Børge.

I had two exceptional nights, waking up at 3:00 staying at my desk till 6:30, sleeping till 7:30 having breakfast.
Work at night is mostly undisturbed by anything. good.

Frank, at least you got something out the hours you were awake. I remember the jabiru night shot. Its from Brazil. Someone showed me the nest, but I didnt care to take a shot during daylight, because I previsualized the scene with the nightsky as a backdrop. I returned the following night and got this shot. The guides now take clients routinely to this spot in the darkness, so they can photograph the same scene. I never understood why photographers strive to get the same shots? So mindnumbingly boring...
-
Really like the tree and the stars!

I have had issues with sleep for most my life, but found in the last few years that diphenhydramine hydrochloride (benadryl) actually works for me. It can be purchased packaged either as a sleep aid or allergy medicine, 50mg does the trick for me. More makes my back hurt. Strange. Best part is it's cheap and widely available.
Loving the images :-)

You are so right.

I remember a medicine I used to take as kid. It was some kind of allrgy medicine that was suppose to relieve itching because of eczema. It knocked me out like I was unconsious. I belive it was the same medicine you refer to. But tonight I think I'll just stick to roaming the fields, since the weather seem to have improved :)

Børge, sorry about your problem of insomnia. But, judging from your images posted here in NG so far, I don't think it has any negative influence on your photography, even though it may slow you down. I love this last image (daylight synch?): its atmosphere, lighting, purple flower...
-
Børge, I was about to say "sorry" about your insomnia but then I saw what you do with your extra time... ::)
The calmness, solitude and probably concentration -less noise and movement around- looks like helps a lot wity your creativity. Unusual light intensity and sources as well. Please, if you feel good, keep on going!

Last night I dreamt myself awake 3 times. Now I feel like death warmed up. I believe the world's bio- rhythms /equilibrium or whatever you believe it has - is upside down and this simply means it affects us humans too. A changing faze is challenging. (and the world is in a changing faze)
The human brain/mind is complex - and sometimes the only time it gets to rest/heal/relax is when you sleep, and you (the human) isn't forcing your mind to be busy. It takes over and does what minds and brains does best. The body doesnt like that part. Does anyone even understand what I am saying ;D
-
Im sorry, but I never intended to imply that my temporary insomnia, is a real problem. Compared to the problems that afflict many people these days, me not sleeping very well during a few summer weeks, is nothing worth mentioning. And much less something I want others to feel sorry about. I try to occupy my restless mind with photography in world where many cannot afford to rest, just like Elsa suggest. Im not even sure I want a cure for it :)
-
Great shot of the 'plant', Børge
Sleep, or non-sleep, is part of life, and creativity. ;) Tomorrow full moon, always creating a kind of unrest.
-
Børge, I am certain you make these images in your sleep :)

I do, lots of them. But getting them from dream state and on to the sensor, always possess som minor problems ;) I guess in the near future it might be possible to depict your dreams, but I feel confident that Nikon won't be the innovator ;D
-
I do full shoots in my sleep - then I am woken up to face the horror of the results haha
-
It might be Insomnia to you, it is sure a cornucopia of wonderful photos for the rest of the world.

Thaths the minor problem I was talking about ;D
Frank, my keepers/crap ratio are still are still negative :)

As Akira and others have already mentioned, I wonder if you've actually found the gold in your dilemma.
Both your images and the discussion you've stimulated are ample evidence of this.

Dunno about that. However many people are trying to meet the demands of what they think the Western world "requires" of them. Not all of that is helpful and insomnia is just one of many signs when natural limits are exceeded.
Does anyone even understand what I am saying ;D
Better stop now as I'm way off topic!

Mathematics seems not to be your stronghold in waking nights?
+/+

+/-
????

exactly
-
Frank, a ratio less than 1 than one has to be negative ;D Elsa, posting these kind of pictures does not enhance sleep :)

I do see a whole world beween Zero and One!
-
Yes Elsa!!!
I think that to be negative, should be less than zero...
-
Well, then photograpy and mathematics just dont add up ;)

The value of the photo is often in the emotional effect it has on the beholder
Emotions are mostly incalculable.

2am is because humans are relatively small, thin-skinned and taste good to big cats. Uninterrupted sleep on a savanna where the apex predators are nocturnal is not a good idea.
-
The whole is more than the sum of its parts :)

Especially in multiplication and division ...
