Nikon has released the "new" firmware A:1.03/B:1.02 for D3S.

The camera was released in November 2009. The addressed issues are rather minor (the remaining battery indication in certain cases and yielding files of the same number in the different cards in the sequential recording mode), but that's the support for the flagship model!

And my D3?

And my D3?
Do you have any issue with your D3?

No. I just thought it would be nice if a new firmware update
would fix the live view brainless double mirror clapping or
add a silent mode and new picture styles optimized the AF
system

Likely the mirror and shutter cycle is in hardware and cannot be changed.

Unlike the newer models, the mirror mechanism of older Nikons including D3 series are spring loaded rather than motor-driven. So, it should be technically impossible to slower the mirror movement. I'm not sure about the reason for the double slap. Maybe the mechanism is permanently linked with the shutter mechanism?
