Suddenly I just remembered that I used to tell myself that once the old D200 was retired for good I would make an IR-conversion. Still seems like a good idea.
Does anybody have a DIY-guide for the D200? Have searched the net without success.

Have you tried lifepixel.com?

No, but just been checking it out. Great site, thanks.

I have just gotten a D40x modified by http://www.protechrepairs.co.uk/ - pretty quick turnaround and being in the EU, I think it's cheaper and faster than getting it done in the USA.

Congratulations, D40X is a great little camera for IR.
Just remember there is no Liveview thus concentrate on using lenses with little focus shift.
Alternatively, put a red filter (R60) on the lens to reduce the focus shift before it is manifested.

Thanks! I got the 18-55mm VR lens. I also just posted here: http://nikongear.net/revival/index.php/topic,2763.new.html#new

If you go carefully, you will not need to desolder the ground tab as you can shift the shield gently out of the way to unclip the cables. A longish tweezer will help.
D200 is remarkably robust - D5200 had very fragile flat cable connectors that broke too easily
Good luck
