Is the definition of soccer "when 22 grown men chase a ball for 90 minutes, wearing shirts with their IQ written on the back" or "Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win"? Looking forward to seeing a few matches on TV even though I usually prefer watching grass grow, snow melt or paint dry, before soccer. The world championship or the european championship is a different story. Its the fight between nations and not who has the most money thats makes it more interesting. The spoiled brats are playing for their flag and not their bank account.
Me and the boys are well prepared for the play off, even if Germany will take the trophy home ;)

haha, love your text - I will not look one simple game
coming back to your pic: the actually discussion about the 300PF shows that these double shadows
are a brand new feature - so how did you make the pic 30 years ago without this lens? :D

Nice pic and story. I am already fed up - with the barriers and body searches, just to get to my subway station...

No TV set at home, so the problem is solved.
But I must admit that Paris was a big mess today. Driving around (even on my scooter) was not the easiest task...
I like your style, BW!

I have empathy. When the world cup was here in 2010, we went to Botswana to try and miss it.
At 21h00 one night in the Central Kalahari Game reserve (one of the most isolated spots in the world), the idiot in the next campsite started blowing his vuvuzela. A fight nearly broke out....
Nice picture, is it a long exposure, or a double exposure?

Hehe, I recon you guys are not among the worst football-hooligans in europe, so expected this thread to be left to die off in silence. I have pity with those who have to live under security lock-down in France right now, so lets hope there aren't any incidents of terror or violence. You had your fair share.
The picture is a 15 sec exposure and "made to look old" in PS. Its taken with a UV camera to get the long exposure.

Great shot, Børge !!
I agree with most, not really a football fan, and not having a TV set helps. A bit. Luckily the Dutch team didn't qualify, so no painful Orange merchandising in the shops and streets. Apart from....

Indeed...
but the thread is not going to die with more humorous shots (and comments) as above :)

LOL. And please tell me, in what lens (at what aperture) did you cook the bokeh of your last pic ?
-
Cooking ;) The orange flowers were shot with the Nikkor 200/2 AI at f/2

Orange looks better in a field than on the football field. Luckily the islandic team saved us from the latter ;)

England is struggling with the strong russian defense but manages to break free...

Børge, I really love this last one. The ponies are expressing their complete disinterest in the whole idea of football while the boy joyfully plays. Very very cool shot. And an entire field full of yellow flowers. Beautiful.
((What kind of ponies are those? I would love to see them up close some time.))
A few years ago I was in Rome when Italy won the world cup. (Don't remember where the games were played.) I got quite caught up in the games myself and watched the last few matches in the series faithfully. I remember the celebrations that erupted when Italy won. Cheers & drinks on the house where I was staying. Cheers & car honks in the streets.

All three photos are super special.
I like how the ball matches the dandelions :)
Pity there are no yellow and green teams in the Euros...

I like football when I actually play it, the interaction with the other people, I'm really bad, but a bit of fun and exercise is good
When there are popular teams playing in Guadalajara is a really good time to run errands , the city is deserted, it is a good idea to avoid going out before the game or after the game specially if the local team wins
Really like the images you shared

Andrea, these are icelandic horses. They are quite small but very agile and hardy. Even if they have access to a shed they prefer to stay outside all winter. You are quite right about their lack of interest in football :)
