Rick, thanks for sharing!  This is the most interesting article of disassembling Nikkor so far.  I wonder what the large spring is for?  Does it push the preset aperture ring into the notch?

to answer your question, yes. I personally believe that a simple stamped ring can do the same thing. this must be a cost cutting decision
