I agree. Peter there's a delicacy about the first image that combines with the golden tones to turn it into something special.

If these were the "before" pictures, what were the ones from later on like?

Colin, I think this was probably my "shot of the day", although I still have a lot of photos I haven't really looked at. I call myself a bird photographer, but almost always it's my landscape images that turn out best. However, I am too lazy to be a true landscape photographer.

arriving too early is something I would hardly call "being lazy". First picture is really great!

That first photo is beautiful on various different levels. Sometimes too early is right in time?

Peter what you said may well be so at times BUT the images you have captured (too early) are superb. #1 is a standout of layers, light and graduated tones. Mongo loves that image !

#2 is more abstract and minimalist but a great interpretation of those elements where you were shooting that morning. Great work.

Thank you Joost, the solitaire and especially Mongo (for explaining why).

I would just like to point out that arriving early requires no more effort than arriving late.

Driving to your location is however a lot easier than hiking up a mountain with a pile of gear!

Amen to that. I just had that yesterday where I carried both my gear and the gear my girlfriend wanted to use.

Normally she carries her own backpack with cameras and 2 or 3 lenses, but yesterday due to circumstances we decided that I take the bigger pack and carry all the gear. That amounts to about 10,5 kilos where I normally bring about 5,5 kilos of gear when I am more selective.

Yesterday we were out and about for a good 5 hours. As soon as both cameras are out of the pack the backpack weighs 4,5 kilos less though
