Title: Hello from Slovakia
Post by: tpolakov on April 12, 2016, 14:56:31
Hi everybody,

I am Tomas from Slovakia - an amateur/enthusiast photographer, who just got into the Nikon world almost by accident...
I have been shooting Sony Alpha for about 9 years, but could not pass on an opportunity to grab myself a new closeout sale Nikon 1 V2 with the 10-100 for very cheap. Initially I wanted to sell it for profit, but after a couple days shooting it just grew on me - size, AF speed, reasonable image quality, looks like I am going to keep it :)

So I am just looking around and trying to find a Nikon community and/or gear pages with real user reviews. Coming from Sony/Minolta world, there is a nice site www.dyxum.com with user lens reviews and sample images. So I was wondering if something like that existed for Nikon (and compatible) gear. I could not find much so far, this site being the closest, but structured more as a forum, while I am looking for more of an easily searchable reference site. So if you could give me some pointers, I would really appreciate it.

Having said that, I believe I could still find valuable ideas on NikonGear, so looking forward to browsing the site.
Adding a pic I took on a stroll yesterday - superzoom bokeh ;-)
Thank you all
Tomas

Welcome indeed. I also own the 10-100 and it is a very capable zoom lens especially versatile for travelling light.

NG can be seen any way you like. A forum for discussions on gear (not just Nikon), a place to exhibit images and receive critique, and above all, an ecosystem of friendly atmosphere inviting to build a network of relationships over time. To that end, we arrange NG Come-together events at least twice a year.

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask in the relevant section and you are certain to get helpful assistance.

Thomas, welcome also!  Nice image.  Do stick around and browse.  I only stumbled on NG a week or two ago, and haven't really been back to the review-type sites much at all since.  There is a wealth of experience, inspiration and technical information here.

Cheers,  John

Welcome!

As for image database, have you tried Jose Torralba's nikonimages.com? You can browse by lens or other criteria there. There is also an analogue zeissimages.com. Unfortunately, some lenses are not listed, but a lot are.

A side remark: it is very hard to learn anything significant about the behaviour of a lens from the usual tiny web-sized images. Much better to initiate a discussion and ask for user experiences in the field. Do note that comments like 'great lens' and suchlike confer absolutely no information and are just internet static.

Agree, the site I refer to above is just for eye candy.
