During the Utrecht event, we discussed the next event. Maastricht was proposed, in the June time frame. Proposal is for Saturday and/or Sunday.
I am not from Maastricht, so i cannot be mr. tour guide. But, There is some good shooting in the centre and there may be opportunities at the works where they are building the highway tunnel below the city.
Who's joining and at which date in June?
-
Just name the date :)
-
Yes, just give the date ;) Maastricht offers a lot of possibilities, rivers, 'mountains', bridges, Roman Churches, old streets, but also a lot of nature... I rented a bike there a few times which gives a good reach in the complete surroundings.
-
Ya, we shall bring it on :)
-
I prefer walking with the cameras. I am in if possible on the family side.
-
I'm not able to join in June (exams).
July 10th is my first "free" day, so I have to skip this one. :'(
-
Sundays better than Saturdays. I can bring my family to the event
although they will be on separate ways. Carsharing so to say.
If they do not want I can share the car with Werner .... plus there
is another Werner from Bonn who might come and Alex maybe
-
So, we are looking at these Sundays (if Sundays is what we want):
June 5
June 12
June 19
June 26
Please state your preference(s)
-
I need to check the family agenda, but so far, all Sundays are possible for me.
-
I suggest Sunday 12 June 8)
All in favor say aye :)
-
Aye
(No problems with any of the mentioned dates)
-
5 and 12 are good for me.
-
All dates are good for me.

-
That is a good tip, Nicole ;)
-
Nicole, Nicole, glad to see you here again! Looking forward to Maastricht :)

Count me in for the 12th.
After a nice, relaxing train ride to Maastricht, I will be ready to run around all day long. Unfortunately I only have boring lenses to bring with me. ;-)
Thanks for organizing this, Hans!

Thanks for organizing this, Hans!
I was volunteered Peter ;D
-
I seem to spot a preference for June 12.
Let's see who else is up for June 12. I will scan the thread and summarize the preliminary participants.
-
I did not state a preference. Count me in anyway. Thank you for being volunteered. Next round of coffee on me!
-
You are all teasing us with the nice pictures. 5th or 12 th for me.
-
Hi,
the 12th is fine!
Harald
-
Hi all,
The names of people for June 12:
Jakov
John
Thomas
Frank
Bruno
Nicole
Peter N.
Harald
Please let me know if one of you cannot make it after all. Of course, additional people are more than welcome to join, just reply to the thread.
In a while, we should agree where we meet up.
-
Hi,
Count me in for the 12th in Maastricht,
see you,
Joost
-
Will be fun. Sure will be a lot of fun!!!!
-
So, with Joost, that makes:
The names of people for June 12:
Jakov
John
Thomas
Frank
Bruno
Nicole
Peter N.
Harald
Joost
-
I can not promise that I can make it, but it sounds like a lot of fun.
I lived in Maastricht for quite a while and even though I do not know many good photo ops other then the obvious ones, I do know where to obtain the good food and beverages.
I would also only bring boring lenses ;)
-
So, that makes the names of people for June 12:
Jakov
John
Thomas
Frank
Bruno
Nicole
Peter N.
Harald
Joost
the solitaire (perhaps)
-
It seems there is spell on the event organizers, because as it turns out i won't be able to join the event. I have an assignment that weekend (where have i heard that before :P ).
-
Hans???? :o
-
Really? Who will agree to be volunteered for the next event if this is true :)
-
Really? Who will agree to be volunteered for the next event if this is true :)
It must be a fluke, so just volunteer someone for a Belgian event and we'll see :P :P :P
I'm bummed though, i was really looking forward to going.
-
On the other hand, is there still an option to go June 19? Then i'd be able to join (as it looks now) :D
-
19th would also work for me.
-
I did state no preference ... ready when you are ...
-
Rethinking preferences ...
-
19th of June is just fine 8)
-
The 19th is father's day.
-
The 19th is father's day.
OK, let's not shift the date if one of the original participants (for June 12) cannot make it another day (like the 19th). I wouldn't want to leave out anyone because if the simple fact that i cannot make it the 12th.
-
OK, one last try. From the initial responses, it seems that some stated preference for 5 or 12 June. Especially Jakov and PeterN have only mentioned June 12.
Would June 5 then be an option?
Please, all that had agreed to the date of June 12 confirm or deny your availability for June 5.
I know Frank doesn't have a preference ;D
-
Hans, you are the organiser, and if you say 5 June, who am I to complain? :)
-
I would not mind either way. Still, can not say for certain whether I can make it regardless of the day chosen.
-
June 5th is also good for me.
-
the 5th is ok for me
Joost
-
We now have two options, the 5th or the 12th.
For June 12 have confirmed:
Jakov
John
Thomas
Frank
Bruno
Nicole
Peter N.
Harald
Joost
the solitaire (perhaps)
For June 5, the "new" option, now have confirmed:
Jakov
Frank
Bruno
Joost
the solitaire (perhaps)
Hans
Let's give it some time so the others can have a look and see whether June 5 is possible for them.
-
The 5th is OK for me
-
What is the list for 19th? Who comes apart from me and Jakov and Hans?
-
PS .... Joost = the solitaire from.Belgium ...
-
What is the list for 19th? Who comes apart from me and Jakov and Hans?
Frank, it seems that PeterN cannot make it. I wouldn't want to exclude anyone from the original group just so i can join.
-
Ok, the list for the 5th has grown:
Jakov
Frank
Bruno
Joost
Buddy (a.k.a. the solitaire) (perhaps)
Nicole
Hans
-
after checking a number of calendars: Harald and I can do the 5th :-)
-
5th works for Me too.
-
PeterN is in on the 5th?
-
The 5th is no problem :)
-
Great! Thanks all. Let's see, the original bunch (June 12) was:
Jakov
John
Thomas
Frank
Bruno
Nicole
Peter N.
Harald
Joost
the solitaire (perhaps)
The confirmed participants for June 5 are now:
Jakov
John
Thomas
Frank
Bruno
Nicole
Peter N.
Harald
Joost
Buddy (a.k.a. the solitaire) (perhaps)
Hans
So, it seems the entire group, including moi, will be able to make it June 5, Hurray!
I'll have the title changed to reflect the choice now for June 5.
-
Yippie.
-
It's June 5 everyone!
If more people want to join, very good of course. But the 5th it is ;D Mark it in your agendas.
-
Fantastic recovery :)
-
How much we all love Hans and refuse to gather without him :)
-
looking forward to it!
-
Thanks guys, that's way too much honour :-[ :-[
-
PS .... Joost = the solitaire from.Belgium ...
It's always nice to have a nickname. And to be from Belgium too.
I skipped the introduction and Jan Anne smacked me over the head once because I did not have my name in the signature. I guess that that will be the reason why I am Joost now.
In real life my name is Buddy. Born in the Netherlands, lived in Belgium, Ireland, England, US and currently in Germany but with plans to move to Sweden within the next 3 years. ;)
-
Frank, I think you have confused two newcomers who joined at the same time: Joost, from Leuven and Buddy the solitaire. They're 2 persons, not one :)
-
Bruno yes! But Frank is only one ;D
-
Shame on me. I mistook people. Come to the event. I buy you a coffee.

A most excellent incentive I must say ;D

The coffee did the job. I can make it to the Maastricht event (and bring my better half who is also an avid and talented photographer)

I will come but my better half stays at home.
-
Did anyone mention a schedule? Like when and where we meet&greet?
-

11h at coffeelovers?
-
Ok, thnx for that info. SHould be no problem. Maastricht is about an hours drive from here
-
I did not decide on that it was just a suggestion. There are lots of others who might have better ideas...
-
Anywhere where they offer a decent coffee is a good suggestion in my book :D
-
Any suggestion on a parking place for the day?
-
There is a huge parking lot five miniutes walk from coffee lovers. Look at google maps.
-
I'm not sure how all participants are going to travel into Maastricht, but it seems most clear to gather at the train station and then walk to the centre (or anywhere else we want to go).
I'd propose to meet between 10.30 and 11 at the train station. Then take it from there.
If you come by car, i think google will help you with parking lots.
-
Who will come by car?
Whol will come by train?
I have some space in my car left & can share.
-
I'm by car but may end up with the train between parking and meeting place. If we stick to Coffee Lover, we need to be a bit more specific: there are 6 of them in Maastricht.
-
Last time in Utrecht we gathered at the station, but perhaps it would be wise to wait for each other while drinking coffee.
So, Hans, pick a coffee place :)
I will most likely go by car...
-
Coffee Lovers in the Book Strore in the Old Church
-
Coffee Lovers in the Book Store in former Old Church
Last time we spent roughly 60 minutes at the train station waiting for and collecting participants
-
Excellent choice Frank!
-
mapped:
-
We will come by car. I have a rough idea as to where I want to park the car, but it will be quite a walk to Coffeelovers from there. Parking in Maastricht isn't quite easy when you're not willing to pay for the use of one of the appointed parkinglots.
So THAT's the church they built into a book store. I thought it was another one. I guess the old church near the Volksplein is then still abandoned. Shame. I used to have a key to that church. And when you looked past the bird droppings the interior was quite impressive.
-
An interesting parking is the "P&W terrein Cabergerweg Maastricht". Close to the city centre (walking distance). Check the dayly rate on the site: http://www.parkeren-maastricht.nl/parkeerterrein-cabergerweg

Zoom in and you see that there is an easily accessible big car park within 5 minures walking distance. Been there. Done that.
-
Thank you Nicole! :)
Now I know where El Presidente will enjoy his rest :)
-
Sorry, been away for work.
So, it's official, we gather at Coffee Lovers (see Frank's map) at (or before) 11.
See all of you there. Btw, i will probably come by car too.
I'll draft a private message to the whole group, so no-one misses this bit of information if they haven't checked the thread.
-
The bookshop only opens at 12 on sunday's.
I think it will be be the same for the "coffeeLovers"
-
Can someone suggest a nearby alternative?
-
"coffeeLovers" drink coffee only in the afternoon :o ::) ;D
-
Drat, how can that be :-(.
Perhaps we can find something to our liking on this website: http://debestekoffievan.nl/Maastricht
-
Mickey Browns?
-
Other CoffeeLovers have different opening hours. De annex opens at 10:00. No idea if the location is convenient though.
Coffeelovers De Annex
Plein 1992 15

-
Ruiterij 2, Maastricht, from 9:00
-
Ruiterij 2, Maastricht, from 9:00
And Glacisweg 26, Maastricht from 10:00
All others open later or not at all.
So we have 3 choices :)
-
Bruno, just pick the largest one :)
-
Can't say from here, I'm on the smartphone, but from the services offered, glacisweg seems the smallest so anyone's with s preference for ones of the 2 other locations?
-
Car parking near by? Wich of the two?
-
* following the change details * Harry and I will adjust to what seems appropriate.
-
From a parking situational point of view I preferred the original plan. Both the new locations move us to the other side of the river Maas.
-
Not sure whether http://www.cafezondag.nl/ has been proposed already. Close to the station, just across the bridge from the centre (station side), just off of the Sint Servaasbrug (the name of the bridge0.
It opens at 10, so 10.30/11 would be safe and we're close to parking places and city centre. Parking here: http://www.q-park.nl/language/nl-nl/nl/parkeren-bij-q-park/per-stad/qparkparkinglocatorvw1094/parkingdetail/parkingid/691
Could that work?
-
Is there an English version?
-
Cafe Zondag sounds fine :)
-
Dear all, I am sorry for the late message, but only now I am sure that I am able to join you on this trip! Jakov and I will be coming together from The Hague. Looking forward to meeting you all and to see Frank, of course! :-)
-
Weather forecast promises a 25 degrees with 80% sun. Looks very attractive ;)
-
Have a lot of fun, I'm looking forward to the images.
-
Where exactly is the meet?
-
I'll be with a buddy photographer
-
Cafe Zondag, Viv. Address on Internet site above.
-
we are camping first time this year with my granddaughter
-
Where exactly is the meet?
Do you want to join as well, Viv? You're most welcome.
If so, please share your name and mobile phone number with me via PM, then i'll send you the final meeting place and time (and the phone numbers of the other participants).
-
Still can not say it, but intend to participate as well :)
(Depends on coming back home saturday evening from another event)
-
Werner. You can share my car. Just drop me a line.
-
Correction, I might be able to make it after all. Depends on the outcome of today. I will be able to confirm my being there later today. Really hope I do make it though
-
I'll be with a 3rd person, Martine Henry, registered here but who never posted. http://www.martinehenry.be/
-
A box full of surprises!!!
-
The more, the merrier!
Weather looks like a mixed bag. Good temperature, 25 C, but quite a chance of rain or even some thunderstorms.
Let's see what the day will bring.
See all of you!
-
Ok. I am coming and I bring Werner with me.
Hope to make it in Time 11 at Zondag
-
Ok, it's sealed. We'll be there tomorrow.
Before we get there, I want to say a few things about the woman I love. Kristina suffers from a social anxiety disorder. That means groups of people make her uncormfortable. She will still come with me tomorrow, but it might mean that we will take one or two moments leave for ourselves to join the group afterwards.
This social disorder also means that she prefers not to be addressed directly. Again, as long as I'm there, just act normal and you will hardly notice. This disorder is very hard to cure with therapy as the anxiety also or especially includes anxierty around therapists that sit in small rooms and ask uncormfortable questions in an attempt to determine how you are and how they can help you. We're working on that and on a full integration into society but that is a long and difficult path and as far as pour path together concerns, we just started.
So we will be there, and I'll just write down a few phone numbers so I can ask where you all are when we needed a time-out from social interaction ;)
-
Hi Buddy,
fine that you both will come. :)
Harald
-
OK, Buddy. I can cope with that. I know a lot of different people including myself. I mean --- very different people --- and cats. and goats.
-
Buddy, glad you could join.
-
First (and most difficult) hurdle already taken: deciding what to put in my bag...
A french poet once wrote: "partir, c'est mourir un peu" ("having to leave is like dying a little bit").
I for one rather would say: "choisir c'est mourir un peu" ("having to choose is ....").
See you tomorrow!
Joost
-
Joost, you're definately on top of the situation. I have not yet figured out what to bring and what to leave behind.
I decided on the cameras to bring.
The Nikon F is coming along
The D3 will be there as well.
Lenses, 105mm f2,5 Nikkor-P of course
5cm f2 Nikkor-S maybe/most likely
The 20mm f3,5 UD Nikkor will be there as well as the 16mm f3,5 K series Nikkor to round out the wide end of my kit.
Now I'm undecided on the long end. Do I bring the ultrasharp 200mm Nikkor-Q.C or the 80-200 f4 Ai-S which has yet to prove itself in the field.
Lumi preparing the camera bag :)

-
Same 'problems' here. In Utrecht I kept it simple with the 45/2.8P and the 80/2.8. Now something different I guess ;)
-
I chose one DSLR with one lens and the X100T as backup. The rest of my weight budget is on spare batteries
-
The SLR is an F5? Or why else would you bring 5 kilo in spare batteries? ;)
-
Getting ready

PS: The text on the mug reads: "You know what killed the dinosaurs, Whateley? We did. In one barbeque."
It's a quote from Neil Gaiman and is a playful reference to the Cthulhu mythos by Howard Phillip Lovecraft
-
Countdown counting... 15 min until launch.
-
Lunch in Maastricht
-
Tha's a nice "the calm before the storm" scene! I'm concerned about the current rainfall and flood in France and Germany, though.
-
Please do not mention anything about rain yet. We're still stuck in Aachen. The only "progress" is that our car is locked away, we didn't get a rental and we're now waiting for a kind and close friend to pick us up in Aachen on his cost (I promised him my kingdom, knighthood and lunch at an establishment of his choice for his kindness) because the ADAC did not get their act together.
That said, the morning and lunch were great, company was pleasant and kind and I hope to be there on a next meeting. That time we will bring both dogs however because poor and brave Amy has been alone at home for over 10 hours now :(
-
Good Luck, Buddy! It was nice meeting the 3 of you.
-
We just got home :)
-
Glad to know that, Buddy!
-
The SLR is an F5? Or why else would you bring 5 kilo in spare batteries? ;)
In the end I survived on one battery per camera. Now that I learned that I have to use "Li-ion20" not "Li-ion01" in my D500 I get a lot more milage.
-
Is it that bad? I have 88% left in the D3 after 144 photos (of which I took 100 on the ADAC parking lot ;) and my F still has full capacity :p
Wish I had had a bit more time to chat with you and try to pry that D500 from your fingers for a spell. Maybe next time :)
Thomas, it was nice tomeet you as well.
-
Buddy: Just ask, most of us are open to gear swapping, lens testing etc.
The milage of the big cams like D3, D4, D5 is in the several thousands of RAWs if one skips image review.
The milage of the D500 should be above 1000 with a single well conditioned battery of the "Li-ion20" kind.
The battery compartment of the D500 weighs 504g which is more than the whole package of the Fuji X100T including battery and card with 468g. I chose to leave MB-D17 at home.
Yet, for a day of birding the D500 battery compartement loaded with 8x"Eneloop Pro 2500" gives me something in the range of 10.000 shutter actuations (many more than I need).
-
Lumi is eating lenses to take pictures directly through the eyes. Great ! and clever. Future solution to pack light when you decide to go in photo trips :-)
-
I forgot to ask you if you've Instagram accounts ? If yes maybe can we also join us on the page.
I put somme Iphone pictures from Maastricht on my account.
One of these is quiet the same of Nicole's picture (lights in the Church)
-
You can also upload your Phone photos here or the Instagram edited shots which Instagram saves in a special folder
on you phone.
-
Oh I'll try it than. Thanks a lot Frank.
-
I am happy if I can help. I do not want to bother you.
Love your pictures. Hope to help you find a way to share them.
