My D800 has been through enough that some of the external buttons are starting to get sluggish - i.e., they have become hard to press and feel like there is some buildup around them in the gap between the button and the body. Also, my rear wheel that you use your thumb with has started to feel kind of squeaky and not quite as crisp as it has been.
Is there any kind of quick cleaning process I can use to try to free these up? Likely they just have deposits from handling, sweat, dust, etc.
I assume I could also send it in to APS and have them do it, but if there is something simple I could do myself that might be good enough.
Thanks -

A soft, clean tooth brush is a good starting point.

Yes, I figured something like that, but wanted to ask the pros first.
Thanks!

There are some narrow little dental brushes which can be purchased at the grocery store or drug store which can be useful for this also. http://www.gumbrand.com/between-teeth-cleaning/interdental-brushes.html
(Not the rubber ones.)
But you have to be careful not to push crud into the space rather than pull it out.
I've used toothpicks too. But they can break, so are not recommended.

it might be something underneath it. or the rubber went bad :o :o :o

Hopefully it's just contaminated with too much of my sweat from all the hiking/climbing I've done with it!

My buttons stick. I live in a hot humid climate, and tend to travel to similar places. It doesn't seem to affect image quality.

just clean them up, you will be surprised at the things that get accumulated. sorry for the disgusting simile for that but the only thing i can think of is "toe jam" :o :o :o

What buttons specifically? (rear, top, front)
