Title: Africa roars
Post by: elsa hoffmann on March 30, 2016, 20:12:48
When I think of Africa - I think of lions. The Roar of Africa.
Sadly the pretty picture of lions aren't only in Game Reserves.
Some lions are in rescue centres or safe havens.
Thankfully there are such places.
(if I have time next week I will offer shampoos and blow dry's for free)
I was touring again as you can see :)

Very nice Elsa, especially the first one of the lioness, though she's resting she is definitely sizing you up for lunch ;D

That male lion really has the royal air about him. Less stiff upper lip, though.

true that Bjørn. They are quite majestic.
(needs a shampoo though)

A hairbrush would do wonders for him as well - however, adversely impacts the wilderness impression !!

Is that picture coming from your 200-500?

I really like all three images, but #1 stands out for me. Quite unique.

Imagine turning around somewhere in the bush without the wire fencing, and seeing her in that pose behind you!

thanks Mike

Listen - I sh*t myself a mountain if a thing like that charges me in the open. Paws are huge - one slap and you are tickets.

Now that is a tool capable of wreaking significant damage. Good grief. And then they have the fangs to hold you with.

Lions are best at a distance.

I dont think one realises just how vicious they can be

Quite some cats! I assume you were sitting safely in/on a car. Glad mine are at least 4 numbers smaller. But even they can be quite vicious with regard to small prays like mice. Nice pics.

The lions aren't vicious by design - they are hungry. Being a predator makes you prone to killing a prey ...

Beautiful photos Elsa. I wonder how close you were, when you shot them!

There was one white male lion - but he only had his backside to me - didn't make for a good photo. But he was quite impressive and beautiful.
The photo of the stalking lion was full frame. I was close - very close. Focal length - 360mm. This is a lion sanctuary - not the bush - hence the closeness. (not that a nature reserve is much different - many reserves are also sanctuaries but the difference here is these lions don't hunt much

That first shot is striking! I can fully imagine it going full speed right at you a split second later.

I love the "Van de Graaff" style lion portrait!
