Hello all,
I found my way here a couple of days ago after clicking a link on Bjorn's old naturfotograf site, and have spent (too many) hours browsing since. I stumbled on a post extolling the qualities of the Nikkor 55 f/3.5, and knew I'd found a refuge from the flood of latest-greatest-fastest-shiniest gear review sites elsewhere on the web (my 55 f/3.5 cost $89 and produces wonderful photos!). I thought I'd introduce myself with a photo taken last December in Antarctica, where we had a number of spectacular displays of atmospheric arcs and halos. They form by refraction when snow crystals fall with a consistent orientation - a slightly more complicated variant on rainbows. Mostly I take photos of the natural world, which is full of surprise and fascination.
Cheers, John

"found a refuge from the flood of latest-greatest-fastest-shiniest gear review sites elsewhere on the web"
Ain't that the truth.
Feel at home. There will be a healthy mixture of old and new here, all spiced up with some diversified and wonderful photography by our members world wide.

Lovely antarctic arcs and halos.
Welcome, John!
I grew up in the Seattle area, Renton to be exact. I look forward to some pictures from the Northwest.

Hi Charlie, Here's one with a northwest flavor - a Spring morning at the Fishermen's Terminal near Ballard, looking towards the Olympics.
Cheers - John

welcome! nice pic! :o :o :o

Welcome, two nice shots, particularly like the arcs. As a Snohomish photographer seeing the Ballard shot made me smile, love the mountains peeking though. Looking forward to seeing more.
Cheers,
Christopher
