Drats - I got all excited - for I thought that we had at long last tracked down an image of the super ultra rare left hand version of the Nikon F!
Bloody photoshop!

Come to think of it, have left handed versions of camera bodies ever been made?
I know of a few bodies whose film advance levers have been on the bottom of the body, but no left hand ones that I can recall.
-
Wasn't one of the first Exacta cameras left-handed? The version with a built-in cutting knife in case you had cut off a piece of film to have it developed immediately.

Bjørn, you are right.

This example has its film advance lever on top of the body. The one I was thinking of had its advance lever on the bottom; an Alpha maybe. I will keep looking.

+ about as many photos of celebrities sporting a Nikon F as you can imagine... it seems the Nikon marketing of its time was focusing on this or then just about everyone was using a Nikon F (both likely true)

I'm not sure who the famous person in the background with the Nikon SP might be. Anyone?
I should have bought an SP back in the early '70s. They look pretty cool.

Well spotted Dave!
Any idea what the Nikkor is?
-
Ron,
I don't know Nikon rangefinders well and lenses even less. I must have spotted the SP in 1970, the year I bought my first real camera, a Nikkormat FTn. I remember there were many Nikon rangefinder camera under the glass in used departments. I liked the look of the SP then and now. I haven't a clue why I didn't buy one.

Most likely a Nikkor-S 5 cm f/1.4 with hood. Could of course be the more common (and less expensive) Nikkor 5 cm f/2, but the size of the thing leans towards the f/1.4. Plus, who would want to by the top-of-the-line camera and put inexpensive lenses on it? (well, has happened before and likely will do so also in the future).
-
Publicity shot of English actor Christian Bale holding a Nikon FA with motorised winder.
Can't make-out what the Nikkor is.
-
Seems to be an 85mm f/2 with the HS-10 snap-on lens hood.
-
And the camera looks more like an FA.

D'oh! Thanks for pointing out my mistake Bjørn :-\
