Title: Inner landscape
Post by: BW on March 23, 2016, 21:10:49
Sometimes, while photographing, pictures might turn out like landscapes of imagination. Inner landscapes that might resemble a dream or a fantasy. Sometimes one is able to capture the hole scene or some small fragments that the mind put into a new contex. This contex might vary greatly based on cultural and religious background.

Today I photographed vortex underwater and by some reason it resembled to me, more like a intergalactic wormhole or a volcano on some far away planet. And with some simple PP it became just that.

With the danger of being introduced to some of your inner thoughts, fears, fantasies and/or fobias, show me your inner landscape :)

Before I read your text and saw your amazing picture I already thought of this picture. It was 9/Jan/2015 on the way to the cremation of my mother, when I saw this stain on the floor and was immediately grabbed by it. I cannot say it had any meaning, it just expresses a feeling, an impression, an echo of the moment

Just what I had in mind Frank! I see a woman in a black dress moving in a grey landscape. No wonder you saw this on that occation.

Very nice Børge. I see the bubbly volcano quite clearly - like on some exotic sci-fi planet surrounded by a dense city, all lit-up at night.

Børge, that is one of the best photos I have seen in quite some time.  Thank you.  I will be appreciating it for quite some time!

What lens did you use to capture this?

Glad to hear Tristin! I used the Nikon 1AW1 with the 10 mm f2,8. I think it was set to f5,6.

As a child I grew up with the fairytales of Asbjørnesen&Moe. It was illustrated with the drawings of Theodor Kittilsen. His drawings shaped my imagination of creatures, places and phenomenas in nature. Even to this day I find myself seeing things that I think Kittilsen might draw.

The image in #9 for me has the charme of a spray painting, some super-photographic, flowing ... style .

The mood is bending magic nature, moonlight fairy tale ... wonderful that this is possible.

Børge, another spectacular image!
I really like the softness of the foreground  :)
Title: Re: Inner landscape
Post by: BW on March 25, 2016, 14:30:00
The softness was added in PP to make the scene look like I felt then and there.

Thanks for commenting, in this particular location the shore is a cliff of sharp volcanic rock, the grinding would be very quick and effective

Asking questions is a good thing.
I think no, it is not too obvious. The inner landscape expands in the eye of the spectator.
The needed thing is something where the imagination is projected on.
Triggers and process are different, the individual milage may vary.
IT obviously works on your picture.

Børge, your first abstract photo is truly spectacular. A real abstract photograph. I should have done it, because I work in a laboratory where we have magnetic strirrers :)

I also liked the aurora shot. I have not seen one yet. But at least we have better weather ;)

Best,

The "rocks" are actually lamps and the picture was taken in total darkness. It was underexposed to get the silouette.

Hopefully this thread will force you to create pictures that are more than renderings of you see, to what you feel or think when pressing the shutter.
The two first pictures was glorious, Paco. A real ominous feeling creeping up on me.

Pray for sanity

I see people running away from themselves
trying to hide from their own image in the mirror
sometimes I need to come to this onion shaped peaceful place
to pray:

let them find back to their roots

I need no church to speculate about creation. I visit my cathedral every day and try to visualize my eternal "light". Sometimes I might find it and other times my thoughts impairs my vision. Tonight was one of the more "productive" sessions where both the Df, lens and I saw the "light".
