Title: Geese - grabbed
Post by: David Paterson on March 15, 2016, 18:07:38
I was out in our garden, heard the geese coming and ran to get my D800 - 400/5.6 AIS attached - which I had been using earlier for something else. There was only a second or two - I set the (manual) focus halfway between 50m and infinity and just pointed and fired off as many as I could before they disappeared. I managed seven shots - one is very sharp, three are reasonably sharp and three are not.

The 400 was the wrong lens but it was better than nothing (or a WA); the 70-200/4 would have been ideal. I estimate there were around 150 geese, probably greylag, in the skein; the most I managed to get in the frame, using the 400, was 42. They were heading north-east - probably they'll be in southern Norway tomorrow.

Very nice travelling birds footage, especially the last one is on my list. I think it's about the sharpness and silhouette contrast betteen the birds and the trees.
