I cover many events that have both and am never quite sure about the images.
This is more of a PJ shot with the then new Son a7II and Batis 25 f2
(http://images.nikonians.org/galleries/data/11779/DSC00334_1293.jpg)
This was with the Df, 58 1.4G handheld in A. Priority. No sharpening or NR applied but highlight protection

Wow, that second shot is great!
The way the head is engulfed in flames is very cool.
cheers

Torchlight procession

Oh yeah, this will be a great thread no doubt.
Tom: That second shot is amazing.
-
fires in 2015 Cape Town - we thought it was bad - but we have had dozens of new fires the past 2 months - mostly arson they believe
last one - Taxi - riots - fighting about routes and permits - burning tyres are thrown in the road and cars stoned. That's how they solve problems
-
Tommie - your images are great - you really captured the scene and the images are quite strong.
Jakov - that balloon shot takes me back to my trip in Cappadocia..... happy times :)
-
Great light and colours, Elsa.
-
Thanks Tom for starting this thread. Your photos are beautiful. I especially like the second one for the charm it creates.
Elsa - your photos look like they are right out of newspaper reporting. Very clean, interesting and story telling.
-
Thank you Anirban and John. Appreciate the comments.
-
Well, not really flames, but I've always thought of this shot as flames on the side of the boat. More of a flame paint job, as on hot rod cars.
-
Tom - great imagination :) works for me :)

Juggling with fire...

Daniel these are phenomenal!
And, I like Tom's imagination!
-
This is not a great photo. I get that. I just handed the phone to someone while we were shooting video. But that's ME, playing with fire. :)
-
Perhaps borderline but these torchlight procession effigies are lit with flames from candles... At the end they are all thrown onto a large bonfire.

I don't have anything to post (yet), but commented to get the notification for new posts. :)

Great idea for a themed topic, here's my contribution.

Fons - what is this book burning affair about? great shot btw
-
During a demostration the other month, Elsa, but these are not books but small cut planks.
-
ah thanks for the info - I could have sworn those were books :)
this kind of images can tell many stories - anyway you would like to interpret it - works really well.

There are some very good, great images. Mine are a bit too literal/realistic . I really appreciate photographs from everyone and the imagery shown. There are some very interesting, imaginative takes on Fire and Flames.
A big help in expanding my 'vision'. When I look back at old images I seem to enjoy some of the ones taken with an SB, playing with different types and settings.
Shame that bonfires and campfires on the beach were banned 15 years ago. I would love to shoot a Full Moon party , around a fire, on the beach. Not saying they do not happen but most are Tourists with not much to lose by running foul of the police ;D .
Keep'em coming , please :) and have fun ;D.

One should never leave the house without a decent flame thrower. A handy accessorie when shooting wildlife ;)

There's gotta be some fire and flames somewhere ...
-
The home fire!
-
Bill, I really like the image . Dof and the glowing wick. I tried shooting food by candlelight in a dark restaurant the other night. Some of the food shots were OK but the actual candle had no personality :(
Gary, I think we can assume there is fire somewhere ;D . Very nice image.
Mike, interesting colours. Looks like some of mine when I try 'remove color cast' in NIK.

some warmth to compensate the weather

I've posted this in it's own thread previously, but I am too proud of it to not share it again! ::) The fire was not photo shopped in, was a very difficult image to nail.
-
Tristin, wow, I can believe you that it was difficult to get it exactly right. good job and inventive :)
Some heat ;)

Nice shot Tommy with the birds making the best out of a bad situation by praying on the fleeing critters.
-
Fiery tuba today, Borough Market.
In the spirit of disclosure, the flames were overexposed and had to be recovered in pp. But they were actually there at the time.
-
Anthony, recovering hilights is pretty routine. J've never heard of such a purist that they don't touch their raws 😉 Nice composition with his environment.
-
Thanks, Tristin, with more time I would have perhaps tried a variety of exposures. I have no idea how he achieved the flames.

A family classic involving two of my daughters long ago...

So don't play with Tom 'cause he's playing with fire...

Remember, remember the fifth of November.
Yes that is what the invitation said.
What sort of celebration is Guy Fawkes Night in these years?
Some friends/colleague use to keep up this tradition. When getting into the time of the year with cold dark nights, Alaskans use every excuse to have a social event. The basic principle is to make a figure out of straw etc. representing something bad that has happened to you in the foregone year, and then throw the figure into the bonfire.

Burning out the migrants
Shot this some time back while out shooting birds. Some migrants had built this shed (obviously planning on capturing the land) in the paddy fields. While my son and I were shooting, three locals walked down the road and the next thing we know, the shed was on fire and I had to run and quickly move my jeep. Now there is nothing lefts of the shed, not even the charred wood.

Photos from a recent visit to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park in the Hawaiian Islands, USA, where the Kilauea Caldera still holds bubbling lava visible from a safe distance a little over a mile/1.6km away. The first photo of the overall Caldera is taken from Keanakakoi overlook, a moonlit photo at 1sec/35mm/f3.3/ISO 1600 to enhance the glow from the lava and the time chosen to avoid the (typically) overcrowded overlook. The second photo is a closeup of the lava surface taken from the same location, with 0.67s/800mm/f6.3/ISO 2500 settings. The image is nearly full frame with a lot of heat shimmer but captures the alien fire-and-brimstone environment. This area has seen a recent increase in seismic activities that have preceded prior major eruptions - although the park officials are not issuing warnings at this time.

Chimper - that must have been a specatular show. Great images, but unfortunately, they look a bit "posterized", and I'd really like to see more details in the colours and tones.
