Title: Faces of Vietnam
Post by: Mongo on January 27, 2016, 11:38:28

Just a few images of the people of Vietnam taken a couple of years back. Mongo travelled light and with inexpensive equipment. All taken with D200 and Nikon 55-200mm kit lens.

The last one of course , has no face but still tells this person’s story.

Really nice and crisp images! And with good contact and respect to the faces oddly enough the last is my favorite here...

I like the fact that your images are not the cliche shots of Vietnam.

B/W treatment is good and my preferred shot is the man washing. His body position is as old as the world.

Maybe you can post more?

Jakov finds Mongo's images spectacular.
It just goes to show that it's not about the gear but the photographer!
Jakov's favorite would also be the old man with water in his hands but the others aren't far behind if at all.

I second Jakov. Beautiful pictures Mongo.  I like all of them. Each photo tells a story; makes the viewer take a pause and think about that moment inside the photo. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Excellent collection of shots, Mongo.  Personally I like the reading woman most, because of the light and the composition.

Thanks you very much John - glad you like these. The woman reading at the temple is also one of Mongo's favourite due to the light reflecting off the book onto her face.

As Frank, I recall seeing some of these before but they are well worth seeing again. Excellent shots. 2nd and last shots are my favorites.

Good Work indeed Mongo.  I also like the last image.  The B&W treatment has worked well in this sequence.

They also remind me that the D200 and the D40X sensors were both very good in good light, even though they started getting noisey much above about ISO 800.

Your work here prompts me to ask:  Have you seen the work of the Vietnamese photographer Long Thanh, who works in film B&W and is based in Nha Trang?  His work is very popular with the large Vietnamese community here in Melbourne.  His studio is well worth a visit if you are in Vietnam again.

Sincere thanks to all of you. Mongo is overwhelmed by your kind comments and encouragement.

Hugh, thank you also for the link to Long Thanh’s site and images. Mongo had not heard of this photographer/artist. A quick look at his site tells Mongo he is going to love going through the fine work on show there. Mongo recommends it to others as really worth a look.
