Title: Jan 26th - India's Republic Day
Post by: Anirban Halder on January 26, 2016, 12:06:14
Republic Day honors the date on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January, 1950.
The main Republic Day celebration is held in the national capital, New Delhi, before the President of India. The New Delhi celebration is an extraordinary event to attend. Also in every state celebrations are held as a tribute to India; its unity in diversity and rich cultural heritage. Since 1950, India has been hosting head of state or government of another country as the state guest of honour for Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi. Last year's guest of honour was US President Barack Obama and this year's honour is French President François Hollande.

Almost all of the big celebrations don't allow any photography. I was driving by this morning and came across this Republic Day celebration in a small govt. school.
The first photo they were singing National Anthem.

2 days ago (also 26 January), Australia also had a national holiday for something similar -  "Australia Day".

Why no photography?
Due to security threat. It's hard for security to check everyone's camera/camera bag for potential explosives. No mobile phone because apparently it can be used as remote detonator.
