Title: The Fantail Forest
Post by: Mongo on January 26, 2016, 01:42:21
In a small micro environment about 40 minutes drive away adjacent to the sea, is a small rainforest -like area dressed heavily in mosses, lichens and ferns. There, in this world of light and shadows live these fantails. They spend a lot of the day feasting on swarms of airborne insects in flight. Alas, Mongo did not catch them doing that but managed to catch them during their rest periods.

The second image was taken in softer, less contrasty light.

D4s, Nikon AFS 300mm f4 @f6.3, ISO 500-900, 1/800th, -0.3EV

Beautiful detail and color. Very well executed.

Thanks you for your kind comments and appraisal Bob. To be honest, if Mongo could have changed anything, it would have been to have a little more DOF.

That contributed to the 3-D effect. For any image there's always many ways it could be done; all could be just fine. It's just the way you did it that time.

Mongo, as always, you captured the critical lively moment of this little, apparently fast moving bird.  #1 indeed deserves to be placed on the top.
