Title: The Voigtlander 40mm f/2 Ultron SL II and the Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4
Post by: Michael Erlewine on January 25, 2016, 17:07:45
The Voigtlander 40mm f/2 Ultron SL II is a very nice lens. Here I am using it with the custom close-up lens attached, on the Nikkon D810 and stacked with Zerene Stacker.

The second photo is Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4 (with 5.8 mm extension)

Excellent as usual  :) , but I pay no attention to the lenses since they would not work that well for me  ;)
I always enjoy your images, thanks for posting

The 58mm sharpness drops quite a bit at very close distances; here the 40 fares better, especially with the close-up lens attached. What apertures did you use ?
Otherwise you put both lenses imaging qualities at a good use (I am a fan of those two).

The 58mm performs better at close distance with the close up lens T6  (or T4). With the 40mm I have no experience.

I have two copies of the older 40/2 SL (RGB striped, no close-up lens supplied), one by a strike of luck and the other deliberately purchased. Really nice lens that I find very suitable for street/documentary, it's among my absolute favorites for walking around with the Df in daylight. Wide open it reminds me of the 35 Summicron look, and dimensionality is IMO exceptionally nice at f/2 - f/4 on the Df.

Archive is at the studio but here's a few from today, Magne (NOR) making friends with my daughter and father

Very convincing shots. The only drawback I found about the 40/2 is night time behaviour (some halos), but even then it remains pleasant if you can cope with the artifacts.
