Title: Perchten @ Tollwood
Post by: afx on January 18, 2016, 21:00:55
I was lucky to be at Tollwood when the Perchten showed up.
I always wanted to see a Perchten (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perchta) show, never managed to though. So seeing them come through the crowds at Tollwood, a large alternative festival, was a very nice surprise.

very unusual event. Many remind Mongo of his long lost relatives.

quit appreciate the light balance you have managed in these images in an outdoor night event.

More Bavarian/Austrian... It is a thing of the Alps...

Interesting family ;-)

Thanks, but that is just the D750 doing its thing and C1 highlight and shadow recovery in post.

Nice shots.  Difficult lighting and moving subjects. You really managed well to catch them.  Did you also have trouble with onviewers holding their smartphones in your field of view? I was in Zell am See, Austria, at about the same time. Watched a Perchtenlauf ("Perchten Run") at about the same time. Didn't manage to get one single unobstructed view at the Perchten - always at least one smartphone holding arm in my field of view.

Ouch! Still, do you have shots? How was the light?

As this was not a dedicated event, there where no people lining up for them, so no issues with silly phones in my shots.

I must admit I tend to use my 2m frame if needed in such situations...

Light was challenging. After nightfall, a narrow alley, partially fire effects.
Even more challenging was the crowd. I am just slightly smaller than you, but too many smartphones held up in front of me...
I barely managed two crops worth keeping. I fear, nothing worth showing, though.
