Title: A winter sky
Post by: David Paterson on January 17, 2016, 16:29:36
Winter here came suddenly, with a little snow then sun then lots more snow. These were shot after the first snowfall.

#4 is that from a forest cutting field? It has a strong graphic potential.

Snow scenes can be tricky to expose and it's easy to make they on the darker side, which hurts the snow rendition unless there is direct sunlight to it.

Like the first image (well, that should be the reason you put it at the top!).  We are now having heavy snow fall in Tokyo.  The commuters would be in trouble this morning...

Thanks, Armando, Bjørn and Akira, for your comments.

Yes, the last two images were shot in an area of recent clear-fell. I've shot there numerous times, including when the timber was being felled. And I agree - rendering non-sunlit snow is tricky - I may not have got it quite right here.

Heavy snowfall again here as I type this.
