For my second post here may I wish everyone a very happy and safe New Year.
I am very happy because just before midnight I captured an hour of the Aurora Borealis. My first after three failed attempts.
I have enough images to make a short time lapse, so in the morning I plan to put that together and upload it.
Nikon D300s, Nikkor 50mm f1.4, 10sec @ f4, ISO 1600. A bit of PP in Lightroom to improve the contrast and pull back some blown blacks.

Robert, I guess no fireworks can compete with aurora borealis!
Well done!

Thank you Jakov, In fact several fireworks did compete, only a hundred meters from us! But by the time I had grabbed the camera on the tripod, re-aimed it and altered all the settings, the display was over. >:(
This was another display much further away, a minute or so later which I did manage to grab, if rather badly...
Heavy crop, D300s Nikkor 50mm f1.4 @f8 for 6 seconds.

Jakov, thanks for removing the redundant thread!
Here are a couple of my first images for 2016 shot during my New Year's visit to Honmon-ji shrine in Tokyo.
Olympus E-M5 Mk II, Nikkor-Q C 200mm/f4.0@f5.6, handheld.

Aurora Borealis reminds me of how much I miss the sequel of Half Life 2. I really want to know how the story continues. It is the heck 12 years waiting now.
Happy New Year 2016 to all of you fellows!
