Title: Lens Hood Orientation
Post by: Chip Chipowski on December 07, 2015, 23:28:59
If I am putting a bayonet lens hood on the lens, it absolutely has to be oriented the right way (with the Made in X text facing down).  Anybody else neurotic/OCD about your camera kit?

Some hoods will vignette unless properly orientated.

The bayonet kinds only lock in place when correctly positioned.

Bjorn - the 70-300VR illustrates my condition.  It will mount and function 100% if the Made in Thailand text is facing up.  Nevertheless, that orientation would be completely unacceptable to me  :)

As long as there is no vignetting and the hood stays put, nothing to worry about.

(not familiar with said lens)

My Zeiss ZF 21mm and ZF 18mm petal-shaped metal hood will attach at any of three points, each 120º apart.  Only one position doesn't interfere with the camera's view.

The petal shape hood should be oriented so that two longer edges come to the top and the bottom of the camera.  It is as simple as that.

I am the same way, Chip. I have very selective OCD. This is definitely one thing that bugs me.
