Title: Minneapolis, 2015/2016
Post by: Anirban Halder on December 07, 2015, 09:48:46
I was in Minneapolis last week for a short trip. I've been there many times earlier - I love that city! Minneapolis is probably the coldest metro city in United States. It is similar to Nordic cold. In fact Minneapolis caucasian population is predominantly of German and Scandinavian descent. The city experiences a full range of precipitation and related winter weather events, including snow, massive snow-storm, sleet, ice, rain, thunderstorms, and fog. The lowest recorded temperature was −41 °F (−41 °C). The snowiest winter of record was 1983–84, when 98.4 inches (250 cm) of snow fell. Often temperature stays below 10 °F in winter.

I didn’t do much photography except few below. I was either jet-lagged or tipsy most of the time.

#1. Skyway system: Seven miles (11 km) of enclosed pedestrian bridges called skyways, the Minneapolis Skyway System, link eighty city blocks downtown. Second floor restaurants and retailers connected to these passageways, are open on weekdays.

#2. Downtown constitutes of high rise. Mix of old and modern ones.

#4. Headquarters of many fortune 50 companies. Hard to believe given the extreme weather.

Very nice series

Your images reminded me of a time I spent on assignment in Minnesota, end of the 80's and beginning of the 90s
I lived in Rochester, about 60 miles SE of Minneapolis, there were time we went there every weekend , or sometimes during the week

I was working and single and had a fantastic time

Thank you Armando! Glad to hear you have been to beautiful Twin Cities. I've been to Rochester, briefly though.
I lived in Minneapolis (in Uptown Mpls specifically) from '06 to '09.

Below shot is from 2009; I'm sure this view looked very different back when you visited. (D200 in-camera JPEG).

The long exposure is really nice (I would tweak the white balance a bit perhaps).

Thanks Jakov. I used an FLW magenta filter which made the overly magenta-ish in addition to the effect of twilight at that time. After you mentioned I tried changing the white balance and I agree - it looks nicer. :)

Don't tell me!! At least they kept the "Lakers" part of their name, to remind us that once upon a time they belonged to "Land of 10,000 Lakes"..  :D

I've sold my Fuji X-T10 and acquired a Df. There was a steep discount on Df for limited time; couldn't control NAS.

Very nice urban series, Anirban ! You always transmit through your lens what you see with success...

Difficult to choose one among them.  8) :)

Is that Bob Dylan?
Enjoy the Df! I see you got accustomed to it right away looking at your images :)

Thank you Francis for you kind comment and encouragement. :)

Jakov - yes, that is Bob Dylan. And the quote is from his song "The times they are a changin"

P.S: Honestly, I'm still learning how to use Df. After D200, this is my second Nikon DSLR. Lot has changed since then!  :-X
