Hello all, my name is Tristin. Musician with a love for photography. First got into photography while working at an electronics store and I saw a Panasonic FZ20. I had never seen glass that big and, though I had never really shot or been interested in cameras, I just found the huge front element very appealing. Then onto a D70 where I discovered fast 50s. Next was a Minolta 7D with a 30mm, then a Canon 5D with various 50s. Dropped photography for the last 6ish years to focus more on music but I've picked back up on it again this year with a D750. Very happy Nikon has FF now! I never shoot anything in particular, I like to keep my camera with me in case I find myself in the right place at the right time. I am very partial to night and low light shooting however.

Welcome here, Tristin

Welcome Tristin!

Anyone with a keen interest in photography is warmly welcome to NG.
Really fast lenses have an appeal on their own, apart from their speed. They can produce dreamy out-of-this-world images and give extreme isolation of the subject, and in the extreme cases, they depict the subject from different angles so as to give a near 3-D rendition of it. The latter aspect is seen with f/1 or faster in the near range.

Welcome!

Welcome Tristin, looking forward to some of your images

Mongo was saving the fatted calf for a special occasion and it may as well be for your return to photography. So, welcome back and to NG

Yet another musician here. Welcom aboard, Tristin! Which is your main musical instrument?

Vocals and guitar, you?

I play the electric bass!

Rad, there's not enough bassists out there.

Oh, in the Mecca of Oakland funk?

Just in general, good bassists are hard to find. On a side note, I started on bass and my love for bass never quite left. Technically I play baritone guitar, I make my own long scale 6 strings that are tuned nearly an octave down. I need to be careful or I am gonna start drifting into music talk here haha.

Yes, let's get back to the original topic!

I don't see a problem with that. Welcome from further down the coast.
You make your own long scale 6 strings? Tell us more, got any pictures?
I've always wanted to try out a baritone guitar, like a Fender VI, but have yet to do so.

Great new entry. Tristin. Look. Read. Post. Ask. Answer. Meet.
There are so many Californians now I feel you could have your own local meetup soon.
Welcome
Frank .... drums and singing

After the first guitar I made was stolen, I decided to make a second. While browsing bridge options, I noticed Kahler was making an 8 string bridge available. I figured that wasn't gonna last long at all and end up being a forgotten quirk (of course 8 strings later exploded haha), so I decided to make a 27.5" 8 string for fun. After years of playing it, I removed 2 strings (high B and E) as I never used them and ended up with a 27.5" 6 string with a giant neck. I decided to make a long scale 6 string, now 28", for ergonomic reasons. Still carving away at the body, I like using a rasp to carve it by hand. Am extremely time consuming task when the guitar is made out of solid Wenge and Purpleheart. I swear, it is like sanding concrete. Maybe worse. My guitar is typically tuned to F Ab Db Ab Db Gb. If you enjoy playing rhythm and have no concerns about missing the high notes, go for it.

Hi Tristin, welcome to NG, already enjoyed some of your images in your other topics.
Btw, would you be so kind to add your first name to your signature so that those whom missed your intro know whom they are talking to :)
-
Ah, yes! Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, Tristin.

Hi, Tristin, for whatever reason, I missed your post quoted above.
Great pieces of work! Recently I modified my Ibanez 5st bass with a neck made of Wenge just slightly, and realized how hard this wood was! So, I'm just floored your work on the hardwood. Both guitars looks perfect for your music. Given the tuning of these guitars, you wouldn't need a bass player. :D

Thanks Akira. I always find the yardest way to accompliish something, it is something my band mates know me for haha! We still would love a bassist. I have plenty of deep lows, but none of the low mid punch that a bass brings.

Yes, an artist will always choose the harder/hardest way if he/she makes any choices. Good point on the difference of the frequency ranges that a guitar and a bass can offer. Thanks for the note.
