Some time ago Bjorn wrote an article on re-orienting the tilt and shift functions of PC-E lenses. Can anyone tell me where I can find that article?
-
Don't think there ever was such an article. However, I have been in contact with Nikon Nordic and they have provided me with an overview of the parts and labour required for modifying each of the PC/PC-E lenses. I can send that to interested parties.
The 85 PC can be modified by the owner as no parts are required. However, the cabling needs to be redressed and you will run the risk of snapping the flat cable as the fit is really tight.

here is on from Achim Sieger about modifying the 24mm http://www.achim-sieger.de/en/axis-change-pc-e-nikkor-24mm/ (http://www.achim-sieger.de/en/axis-change-pc-e-nikkor-24mm/)

Yes and no. You end up with the controls in an inconvenient placement. Plus a real risk of breaking the delicate flat cables inside. During your attempt of getting the lens split to be ready for a rotating, only high-quality JIS screw drivers should be used or you'll end up damaging the screw heads.
I have the official parts list for the modification of all Nikkor PC/PC-E lenses. The 24 PC-E requires three new parts according to this list.

I once wrote about this on the old NG.com a long time ago but did not find the post any longer. The 45 PC-E is the easiest of them to modify, only some new flat cables needed. The 24 PC-E is the next one, it might need one cable more or something similar. And the 85 PC-E is the most difficult. It requires some extra parts also to prevent light leaks. I'm not sure if I remember right but it could need something like 12 parts in the modification. I ended having the 45 mm lens modified. But it was not a good solution for everything. Many times I wished I had not modified it.
The Nikon repair shops have a list of the parts necessary and they can do the modification without damaging the lens. I would not try it myself. (the old 85 PC is a different thing, it is easy to modify, no parts needed). The required parts are the pricey part, and one needs them anyway.

The 85 PC-E requires seven replacement parts. The manual labour is stipulated to 1.5 hours which is the longest labour effort of them all.

I followed these instructions on my 24mm a couple years ago--it works fine.
