I find English countryside churchyards peaceful, pleasant places.
The people buried there have nice tombstones, which with time get covered in lichen and moss.
The individuals buried are long forgotten, and their descendants are gone too, yet a faint echo of them remains as they are being absorbed back into Nature.

Simone,
You caught the churchyard mood nicely. Always loved those places.
And it does not get worse - in the long run.

Wonderful captures Simone, I very much like the angles you've shot the first 3 with.

The carving on the gravestones is really striking

The series reminds me that the graveyard has some strong, poignant atmosphere, regardless of the type of religion. Thanks for sharing.

I always wonder about the people lying there (or whatever remains)
Wonder who and what they were. Especially if it is kids
Thanks for sharing

Peaceful but also mysterious

Thank you, although I don't understand what you meant in your second sentence. Call me thick...

Thank you Jørgen, I did try to go close and low, as the better photographers almost invariably suggest to do.
Of the first three shots I favour the third.

I completely agree.
They were beautiful stones to begin with, skillfully carved, then time has done its part, decorating them with lichen and moss, and finally the grazing light enhanced the texture.

Yes, empathy and respect for the dead is a very fundamental and common aspect of all humankind.

I do the same, and in these cemeteries it is almost guaranteed to see touching tombstones remembering infants or small children.

you are right - and it is almost if I seek them out. One can accept older people passing, but young trees shouldn't be chopped from a forrest

This has been the way of life for most of humankind's history - most children did not make it to adult age.
