An interesting article in today's LA Times Op-Ed section. The article speaks to women covering war and in particular Dickey Chappelle, a freelance photojournalist in the Vietnam War who has the distinction of being the first American Woman Journalist to be killed doing her job ... covering a war.
"When I die, I want it to be on patrol with the United States Marines," she'd once said. Her words reflected a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Although she was a civilian, her burial was graced by a Marine Honor Guard.

Thanks for sharing this Gary,
I find it interesting they mention the book "it's what I do " and show the face of a woman but the article does not mention her name Lynsey Addario
I read it and I really enjoyed it

Thanks for the link, Gary. I am always impressed by the courage of photogrpahers and journalists who cover wars.
I also like the last sentence, a saying of Dickey Chapelle:
"It's not a woman's place. There's no question about it," Chapelle told Mike Wallace in an interview in 1962. "There's only one other species on Earth for whom a war zone is no place, and that's men."

Thanks for the link -
Dying while doing what you love best - I suppose is not a bad way to go. Many others are dead in their jobs anyway - they just haven't fallen over and started smelling yet.

If you gotta go ... my vote is while I'm sleeping ... in a huge, soft, comfy bed, with a big $hit eating grin on my face ...

Gary - not IF, WHEN ... ;D ;D

That's a bit pessimistic Elsa.

Not at all. I am a pragmatist.
I do accept that people feel different. For me - I am not worried or scared about death.
Only about HOW I die. There I am with you for sure -

Oh, so true!
